A Gift From My Son

A rust free 78 California car with rare factory A/C that my son gave me. He traded some fishing gear to a friend for it. I paid the shipping from California to Colorado. It hadn't been running much in the last 20 years or so. It was a basket case that needed an engine and had a trunk full of parts. I rebuilt the engine, resealed the OD trans, replaced the brakes all around, and front suspension bushings. I now mostly have it mechanically restored. There was no California title. California won't title a non running vehicle, so getting it titled in Colorado was a real adventure. I did finally get an in Lieu of Bond title, an experience I hope not to repeat. I got my emissions test and license plates last week and have put about 100 miles on the car. It runs good and is fun to drive, but is a rolling restoration. It has a 50 foot paint job, needs a new top and needs an interior. For now I'm just going to drive the car this summer and enjoy it.

What are you sorry about? Looks like a great way to run around while you're doing your swap!

Nice. I'm partial to white tops on some combinations, especially red, blue or green cars. They are different in a good way.

Rob, I thought wrong forum since this is not a conversion. On second thought it's okay since I am proud of the car and my son for giving it to me. I'll have a fun car to drive while I'm working on my V6. Imagining driving a car with more than twice the power is an added incentive to get the 74 done. It will be fun to compare both cars. I do plan to keep both of them.

Brian, I like the lighter colored tops also. White, light tan, or light brown, looks good on a lot of cars. Here in Colorado at altitude the sun and UV's are severe. I think the lighter colors probably slow down the aging of the top as well.
