Exhaust problem #1

I would like to use a band adapter for the collector to the pipe elbow but the coated collector is slightly bigger that the expanded end of the elbow. With some help, I have gotten through the engine, trans, drive shaft, alternator, distributor, etc. but I admit I am a bit intimidated by the exhaust challenge.

Maybe because I am getting so close to firing up this puppy.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Scott, Most muffler shops have a tube expander - just take both items down there and have the elbow expanded just slightly for a tight sliding fit. Good luck, Bob

The first time I had to take mine apart I changed them to a 3-bolt connection. When I made new headers there was no question I wanted the same:

G W how did you connect them the first time and what was the problem with it?

The first time I put them on I had a slip fit. After running the car I had to beat them off with a deadblow hammer.

Scott,in the photo it sure looks like the brake line is very close to your header. How close is it and are you concerned at all about heat being transmitted to the brake fluid?

It's about a 1/4" behind the collector and 1/2" to the right. I have put an insulating sleeve over the tubing where it's the closest.

I suppose we could have run them out the top of the fender. Like a semi.

I hope it does not become a problem for you,but if my brake line was 1/4 in away from my header,I would be concerned.

OK I give. How have others handle the the front brake lines when using the exhaust into the wheel well?
