So gathering together everything I need to make the switch to the V6 out of the 95 Firbird and got to thinking while I have the time with the engine and gearbox on the floor of the garage, not happening until the fall. Why not start cleaning it up and getting it ready for installation.

Mmmmmm so what color to paint the engine........I have a red car so whats the best color for the engine, gearbx will be silver I guess.

any thoughts or suggestions.

1973 MGB, restoration while maintaining drivability

I own an MG............Lots of fun and frustration........Just can't beat it.

Paul,

Just a thought, something that will contrast with the engine compartment, and also something light that so you can detect fluid seepage. I've always thought that a black engine was hard to find where things were coming out.

That look close to MG red anyway!

Mine keeps them guessing.

I like a nice contrast and a lighter color works well to help spot oil leaks as well as make the engine room brighter and easier to see in when working. I'd use grey against the red background. If not grey then I think I'd go with the older MG maroon that was used on the MGAs and T series.

Ford Grey.... nice light color, good contrast with the red. And chrome/aluminum accessories look good on it too.
The car is green, not red but here's the engine after the trans swap and bay respray a couple of years ago...

If you do red it has to match. But that is too much. you need a nice contrast. Not black.
The medium to light gray will work. If you are planning a contrasting interior than carry that theme to the engine

Healey green. Somehow or other it makes the engine look incredibly valuble

I went with black engine, silver valve covers, the headers are coated ceramic blue, blue silicone heater hoses. I agree with the comments that the darker colors cover up leaks and a lighter color will make finding one easier. I also like the look of the red engine.

What colour were the orignal MGB GT 3.5ls painted? True you have a different engine, but a nod to the original MGB engine mod!

Paul, go with satin aluminum for the block & intake, satin black covers, red plug wires with black boots & a red K&N filter.

What's wrong with Pontiac blue? 60's GTO's. Bonni's and Grand Prix's all came with their engines painted that blue. It is a distinctive color and screams "PONTIAC"
