I think they are cheap because they are not built using stainless, is that not correct? I saw no mention of steel alloy on their site, and I'd expect them to be trumpeting the virtues of stainless if they used it. In which case the alternatives may be twice as expensive, but they will also last more than twice as long.

They don't use stainless, but the whole thing is as thick as, or thicker than the exhaust pipe it clamps up to. Wrap your knuckles against it, and you'll see that it's very solid-no sheet metal.

I guess it is a matter of personal philosophy. If you don't intend to keep a car, then you don't need to worry about what quality parts you use in it, but if you intend to own it for an indefinite period, spending the extra bucks for something that lasts much longer saves you both money and work in the end. I can't say that when I was a kid I didn't opt for a part that was $20 cheaper and worry about the quality later, but now I tend to shy away from anything that is obviously built with that sort of price sensitivity in mind (won't touch crappy new chrome etc.) Given the amount of use these cars usually get, I'm sure the Cherrybomb quality parts will serve for several years and that's all many people will want.

PS - it doesn't matter how thick the case is if the innards rot out from inside....(the stainless mufflers like Magnaflow, and I think Flowmaster also use stainless cores and wraps inside).

This discussion can go for ever.

A good amount of muffler makers use the same internals, with exception of the welded mufflers such a flowmaster and others.

Cherry Bomb used to be the cheapest muffler one could buy and the top of the line used to be Dynomax Turbo muffler so call that because it was engineer for the turbo Corvair due to space constraints. It was just a larger glasspack.

Cherry Bomb uses aluminium coated casings, they have one of the largest sound dyno in the US and most of all is made in the US.

Less price does not mean less quality. Many car builders are using Cherry Bomb products here in the US.
Not to say the others are not good.

Just because they are stainless casings does not mean they have better internals.

I have magnaflow mufflers and like them, I also use Corsa perhaps the best of the exhaust systems as they have a huge amount of engineering in their systems and are sponsored by GM and listed as a dealer option. Yes very expensive and worth it.

Like I said I wish they would build small mufflers that fit in the B's

My cherry bomb turbo muffler arrived today and it is quite tidy. 3 1/4 by 7 3/4 and has a 13 inch body with 2 1/2 inlet and outlet. Will get it installed this weekend. If it has the turbo muffler sound that I prefer,it will become my muffler of choice for swaps because of the size.

oh, when I hear cherry bomb, I think glasspack. That's the kind I got for my Triumph. I needed to be small, and I had the stock rear resonator.

Thanks, John.

Tim, those were my favorite header mufflers for my Camaro. Cold rolled steel glaspacks, loved that roar!

Carl - you put that think on a 2-liter beast, stock exhaust, with a rear resonator, it's not so much of a roar, but it's a more pleasant hum than the stock tractor muffler.

There's a video just under the group of photos on this page. It doesn't sounds too bad.

A follow up now that I have installed my new muffler. My system consists ot a 2 inch pipe off each bank of the 3.4 that run about 3-5 ft. It is then y'ed into a single 2 1/2 in pipe that runs to the small cherry bomb turbo with 2 1/2 in inlet and outlet. I got exactly what I was looking for. The sounds hints at high performance but is amazingly quiet and the muffler fits in the pocket to the left of the fuel tank.
