Check with Moss or VB. They prob have a high speed starter for the 1500.

Spitfire 1147, 1298, 1500 exactly the same. Possibly the TR4/TR6, but that's a guess.

1976 MG Midget 1500 "Opus"
While shopping for parts for my other vehicles (at of all places, O'Reilly's Auto Parts) - I found out that they carried:

1) New Alternator that fits my 76
2) Belts for my 76
3) Starter for my 76

Needless to say, I bought all three (needed the first two - holding the starter because I think it's coming up). They can order and ship to the store in 24 hours for pickup. The one I have is from a brand called "Ultima Domestic". Can't see a part number on the box - but I have no reason to think it won't work - the alternator and belts are on and running. Might want to give them a call and ask.

(PS - did this in Akron Ohio - not too far from Kent!)
