I have fuel to the carbs but none makes it to the engine. Before I tear them down is there anything I can check for?

One of my jet hose spring covers is missing so I can see the fuel in them. Not sure if you can push them back.

It's pretty easy to remove the float bowl covers and check if there is fuel in them. You'll probably need some gaskets to put them back on. Check the float, needle, and seat.

If that seems ok, check how much gunk in in the bottom of the float bowls. It not easy to clean them while on the car but not impossible. I used some fuel system cleaner and poured it in the bowls and used a soft brush to loosen stuff and soaked it up the best I could. Then final cleaning with just a bit more fluid and used a shop vac to suck it out.

Good luck

There was fuel in both bowls and they were clean inside. Gas finally made its way thru the carbs and the engine started. The engine is in a make-shift stand, just wanted it to run awhile to see how it was going to do. Missing on the 2 front cyls. (front carb), run for about 20mins. at appm 1500 rpm. Temp was just out of the cold mark, oil pressure stayed at 60 lbs.
This engine sat for 10 or 11 years, got started last year and ran for about 2 mins just to see that it ran. So this is the first time the engine has been to operating temp in about 11 or 12 years. Oh, the engine would smooth out when I held my hand so that some of the air was blocked out of the front carb. May I should rebuild the carbs even though they are only 41 years old!!! Or get a set of HS4s thumbs up smiley

I have the same year as you, I doubt mine have ever been rebuilt by any PO. May just need an adjustment . Mine could use a rebuild for sure but they seem to be working after some minor TLC and adjusting them out. That was after sitting for about 5 years.

For $100 or so you can get a rebuild kit for both carbs that includes throttle shafts and throttle discs and jets and all the gaskets you need. With a few hours of cleaning and disassembling and an hour or so of reassembling your carbs will work like new. It is not rocket science, but there are a few tips (all of which can be found by searching the interent) that make it go easier and keeps you from having to redo you work.
