I have the dreaded wire wheel clunk. Which would be cheeper? New hubs and wire wheels or change it over to lug nut style wheels? Would a doner car be my best
bet if want to change it over?

Mark its your call, new wires and hubs are costly and solids require different hubs. You'll also need to change the rear end and yes, finding a doner would be the ideal thing. Problem is you don't know the condition of the donors half shafts which can be problematic, and its a fair amount of work. If you think you prefer the wires, send me an email I know I can help with new wires and hubs or just bolt on new wheels.

Robert, I'll call you when I make up my mind. Also is it ok to switch out hubs and wheels as I get cash, not all at the same time?

I go out of my way to work to meet the needs of my customers...especially my old "neighbors" in S IL & SE MO....raised in Carbondale fwiw with parents and friends who spent some time in both Cape and E.Cape...before the supper club there burned many years ago. Have enjoyed canoeing Jacks Fork and the Current River as well. Beautiful country down your way and Sikeston is the only place I can get my throwed rolls! smileys with beer

Just went through it and I found it more economical to switch to custom rims. I had on hand the donor parts. I just rebuilt them. I switched out the rear using my old center section that I knew was good. I found a set of rims on here from a very helpful member on the other side of the country. We are very happy with the results and the lack of that freekin "CLICK" "CLICK" "CLICK" everytime one stops or starts.

You won't spin off a wheel unless you have the wheels on the incorrect side. What would happen is you would free wheel spin, brakes locked on rotor or drums and the wheel isn't slowing. Expect the car to make a quick turn before you can react.

I have a set of wire wheels purchased from Victoria British that I would sell. They were on the car for 15 years, but less than 50 miles. PM me if you are interested.
