Just for informations sake ,Dugs brackets look like the correct ones for one of the midget factory hard tops there were two factory tops for mark 1 midgets ,when I get back to the shop I will take my midget gan1hardtop down and have a close look at the hardware,it has been awhile since I have seen it.In the MG service parts list publication Akd 1879 second edition only it shows the correct style factory hardtop and all of the associated hardware on page r13. The first version hardtop uses a different set of side screens for the hardtop it is taller and has a more raked back edge, but they were made by weather shields like the standard screens for the soft top,if anyone has a set of screens like this I would be willing to purchase them,as I only have one side.really need to post a photo of the hardtop that is being discussed to be able to accurately answer these questions

Interesting, i was referencing AKD 3567 which shows two different hardtops, One for sprite and one for midget. See plate L3 and page BL5. The sprire top uses the hardware gerard shared pictures of.

Very interesting ,thanks for the info.Do you mean mechanical service parts list 3566 ?,I have that one but no sections like you mention for any hard tops.It that the body service parts list ?,that one I have not been able to buy yet and I really need it for my GAn2 because there are so many differences between Gan1.Note..there are two versions of one of the two factory mk1 hard tops ...sorry do not know how to express this in a simpler fashion..but one has a rear window rubber with a chrome locking strip and screw in corner brackets and the other just has a black plastic locking strip to hold the rear window in.when you start comparing only original factory issue parts for these cars it is amazing the variations between parts that all look similar on the surface.

No I mean AKD 3567. 3566 is for mechanical parts and 3567 is for body parts. I have both on my website. In fact I have a ton of other parts lists at the link below

Thank you for the clarification Seth,I could not remember the body parts list number,I think that is possibly the only missing reference I now need for mk 1 midgets,I have A number of the same AKD manuals but different editions no two versions are the same constant updating was being done even if you have the Same edition number they will have different pictures and different sections .the drivers handbooks for the early cars is also like that, they really help to clarify Change points for a number of parts,if one cares about such things..

I had noticed a couple months back that the hardtop was detailed in this Body Service Parts Manual, but totally forgot.

Section BL, Plate L3, top of page, shows hard top (1) and brackets (8 & 9). This style top is AHA5485 for HAN5 and AHA6193 for HAN6. Both use the same brackets, so my belief that the MKII used the same style top and brackets is correct.

I hope I am remembering correctly that both the early mk 2 sprite han5 and the mk1 midget gan1 changed over to a common hardtop for both,it went back to using a hardtop that used only the original set of sidescreens provided for the soft top.this would be for han 7 and gan2 .this happened approx when the car was equipped with disc brakes and the new 1098 engine, the midget still was not designated a mk2 midget yet.

Yes, and so was I. OP was asking about midget hardtops. Hence the confusion. No pictures of the hardtop so no way of knowing which he actaully has. They should be interchangeable.

On page 54 of horler's book he writes

In reply to a post by Terry Horler The optional hartop for the Sprite was initially a revised version of that offered for the MkI. The Midget, however, used a completely new design with a flat rear window and a mor angular appearance. This option required a different sidescreen with a rearwards-sloping rear edge, whose angle aligned with the door's rear edge. The Sprite hardtop was now in Old English White, wheras the Midget version could now be ordered in this colour as well as red, blue, or grey. Both hardtops were superseeded by a common design based on the Midget version but using the standard sidescreens. The owner of an earlier midget, therefore would have required two sets of sidescreens to suit both hood and hardtop.

on page 69-70 he writes

In reply to a post by Terry Horler As described earlier in the 'Weather Equipment' section, the hardtop option initially differed between Sprite and Midget, the latter requiring special sidescreens with a rearwards-sloping trailing edge. The Sprite hardtop was very similar to that of the MkI, whereas the Midget one used a more angular version with a flat rear screen. The Sprite hardtop, availible only in Old English White, carried part number AHA 6193. The Midget hartop was availible in four colours, part numbers being AHA 6301 (Red), AHA 6302 (Blue), AHA 6303 (Grey), and AHA 6323 (Old English White). The Special Sidescreens for the Midget hardtop had part numbers AHA 6150 (right) and AHA 6151 (left).

Later The Optional hardtop was commisioned to both sprite and midget. This was based on the Midget item but now used the normal sidescreens. Part numbers were AHA 6458 (primed finish), AHA 6459 (Red), AHA 6460 (Blue), AHA 6461 (Grey) and AHA 6462 (Old English White).

To spoil - or confuse! - an owner even further, the Healey Motor Co Ltd offered its own restyled hardtop. This contained rear quarter windows to give a lighter and more airy appearence than BMC's rather van-like design. This also now used the standard patter sidescreens.

At first glance it can seem a bit complicated or confusing, but the more cars you observe ,the picture becomes clearer.as stated before there are many more aftermarket hardtops and complete redesigned front ends and some back ends that were available to owners of early spridgets.
