No power to the Fuel Pump - is it fuse or relay?

Hi, please help... Yesterday I replaced my 69 Midget with a new Facet electric fuel pump. When plugged to the battery, works like a charm, when I use the old wires from where it was connected, dead no juice even with key in ignition. I tested the old fuel pump and it started working also if connected directly to the battery. Is the live wire (white)to the fuel pump controlled by the fuse box 35amp fuse #2 operated only when key in ignition? Do I need to rewire it maybe, everything seems fine even the ground is clean and tight no rust. Also I have no power to the radio, wipers work, heater blower does not, directional lights work for a bit along with hazard but I have not tried to start the engine yet until the fuel pump works and I put in gas.

Any ideas and is this a common problem with these cars?

There is no relay. Have you cleaned and tightened up the spade connectors on the fuse block? Have you tested (with a meter, not by eyeball) the fuses? Have you cleaned the clips that hold the fuses in? Do the above and your problem will hopefully be solved. (By "key in the ignition" I assume you mean in the ignition and turned to the run position.)

Thanks Wayne, I will take the fusebox apart and give it a good cleaning. Will need to check the fuses also but they look good, cant tell until i put a volt meter in there.
Yes, the key was turned in the ignition, no movement from new fuel pump... starter works. Still learning how this car was put together as I have had it for 3 weeks now.
Checking out the wiring diagram, it could be a loose connection or bad contact/fuse as you suggested. more to come.

Thanks.

Note that the pump does NOT draw power from the fuse box, the power from the pump comes directly from the key switch. The pump is NOT fused.

Juice goes to the key from the Brown/yellow? and is them passed TO the white wire that runs off to the fuse-box where it feeds the green accessory circuits. Note that the white wire from the ignition to the fuse box splits off to the fuel pump on the way to the fuse box.

Look for 12 volts at the white wire at the fuse-box with the key on. If it is there, then it MUST be passing through the ignition switch. look for the dual bullet connector where the fuel pump taps in and see if it has power. Lastly, if needs be, check the white wire post on the ignition and see if there is power in and out of the ignition.

Good stuff, noted and I will trace the wiring for juice from key ignition wire back to fuel pump.
thanks.

As mentioned above take out your fuse box, clean it, along with the fuses. Also clean all your grounds on the battery and chassis.

UPDATE:

It was obvious if I paid attention. I bought the car from my neighbor who sold it to me as is with no battery and it has not run in over a year but garaged kept and covered. So when I bought a new battery for the car, I assume the red was + and the black cable was neg -, wrong!!! rookie mistake, no wonder nothing worked like it should. After I reverse the battery, the radio worked, fuel pump started clicking after key in ignition, signals and hazard lights worked. I was banging my head for a week wondering why my ground was live thinking I have a short in the wiring.

Hope this helps others that didn't know about the red cable - black cable +.
I will repaint it tomorrow so I don't live in the Bizzaro world again!
