Twin Feeds

Instead of having two float bowls feeding my twin HS4 carbs, why not have one and branch off the line to the jets? My point is that you'd have the same float level for both carbs.

True unless you were accelerating, brakeing, going up a hill or going down a hill- then they wouldn't be the same level.

HIF's do a better job of maintaining matching float levels, but have plenty of other draw backs.

The carb and choke interlinks may become an interesting challenge. Unless you ran one jet tube all the way to the opposite carbs float bowl "outboard" but then the delivery "signal" would run into friction loss issues, especially at higher throttle demand.

Then there's hills. the "downslope" most carb would have more head on it so would have a higher fuel level at the jet. Granted, likely less than a couple thou. but still...

Please do not even attempt to redesign the absolute best design of side draft carbs ever created. A nice esoteric suggestion but falls far short of practicality for innumerable reasons Bill M just began to touch upon.

Then why have two separite carbs? Why not just have one with two barrels like a webber DCOE or something? By all means redesign it. I think in attempting to do so you may begin to understand why this arrangement was chosen.
