Spigot bushing install?

Replacing the clutch in my 71 1275 and my spigot bushing was barely there. This is the simple brass bushing. I have the new one ready to go but need some advice on installing it. I've searched the forums and not a ton of info for midgets out there, but theres a lot for MGA and MGB. There is the debate of soaking the bushing in oil over night or that it's not needed at all. Still searching though my Haynes manual for how to install, but can't find it there.

My main question is can I install it on the crank shaft with out a press? I was going to tap it in with a socket and extension but thought better of it and decided to research.

Yup, just tap it in. You can actually force oil into/through the pores by filling with oil and squeezing between your fingers.

Can't hurt to soak it. Just don't install it dripping with oil as it will just eventually fling out and get on your clutch.

I usually put a small blob of grease inside, too. It will be forced in by the input (first motion) shaft and my theory is that the oil portion will slowly ooze out where it does the most good leaving the waxy part behind.

And yeah, it should be an easy "tap it in" fit.

Edit to say: WARNING - test fit it on your input shaft before installing, "just in case!"
