color blind wiring job

As I said earlier got my parking lights to work using a battery charger. I wired it so the dash lights and sidemarkers came on with the parking lights. Put the dash in place, hooked up all the switches, turned on the parking lights and all is good. Turned on the headlights and the r/f sidemarker goes out and the l/f turn signal filament lights up but no headlights. The little ground wire that screws to the right wheel well in the front was off. Attached it and now all the lights are working right. Can't figure how that little ground did all of that!

Getting the rest of the wires sorted out, but when the right turning is on the 4 ways flash in the rear. All the colors are matched up from the rear to the main harness. Got any ideas?

Sounds like the hazard switch has some wires plugged into the wrong spot.

the hazard switch controls the power to the turn signals, so if it was miswired then the whole turn signal system would not work

but, OP says turn signal does work but when signaling one side both side blink in the rear

the RH turn signal wire color is green / white

the LH turn signal wire color is green / red

It sounds like somewhere the green/red is connected to the green/white, most likely where the main body harness connects to the rear harness. You can find this where the A pillar meets the instrument panel, above the glove box.

Because there are a bunch of bullet connections there, and I bet it would be the most likely place where this kind of mix up would occur.

maybe norm, but it seems like the mix up could occur at the hazard switch. Those connections are not well marked.

If he has trouble at his hazard switch, it would cause different symptoms than what he is describing.

The hazard switch turns on all 4 "turn signal bulbs" at the same time, via its own power source, and its own flasher relay, and it turns off the green power supply to the turn signal switch.

But, he described the condition as he turns on his right turn signal and both sides blink in the rear.

Based on this, we can be sure:
- His hazard switch must be working properly, or none of his turn signal bulbs would light when he operates his turn signal switch.
- His turn signal switch must be working properly, or the fronts would do the same thing as the rears.

So, it would be necessary for him to have the wires to the rear bulbs connected together, after the rear wires separate from the body harness, in order for his car to do as he described.

oh, wait! I see what you mean Trevor, if the green/white and green/red were connected to each other at his hazard switch, that would make both sides blink when he operated his turn signal switch.

That makes sense, if all four blinked, but he did not say that his front left blinked, only his rear left, when he operated his RH turn signal, so I am still going to say that it must be in his rear harness wiring that he's got them connected together!

Thanks guys! Found the problem. Took my volt meter, went to the boot and found the wire that was flashing current on each side one at a time and hooked them up then found the wires that were flashing current when the 4 ways were on and hooked the ambers up to them. I HAVE THE PRINCE AT BAY, for the moment anyway. Heres the kicker, the wire colors on the light fixtures don't coinside with the harness wire colors. Next I guess I'll have fun putting the masters on and bleeding the brakes to make sure everything is in check there. I found a switch that will work for the brake lights, just need to drill the hole a little and use 2 nuts to locate it. I might try to search and see if they make one with the right size shaft. We use them for magnet control switches. This one is a N/C switch.
