I have a 1979 MG Midget and my emergency flashers aren't working. If I turn them on the turn signals stop working. If I shut off the flashers the turn signals work. Is it the switch or the flasher unit. Also where is the flasher unit located. Thanks

Dave, I am making the assumption your '79 is like my '72. The hazard flasher toggle in the radio console is designed to function as you described. When the hazard flasher is on the turn signals are disabled. I have gone through this with my '72 in detail.

what Paul said, plus:

the thing that makes the hazards blink is not the same one as what makes the turn signals blink

the one for the hazards is inside the console

My guess is that your hazard flasher is the cause of your trouble.

Dave,
I'm fighting that battle as we speak on my 68...
Again if yours is the same as mine.
The Hazard flasher is in the radio console.
You need to remove the console to replace it. Also check the fuse while you are in there.
You can pickup a generic three prong flasher at any parts store.
Buy a good one, mine went bad in about an hour. no returns on electrical...

Good luck The Prince is watching...

It ended up just being a bad flasher. The 79 is a two prong that I picked up at Napa for a few bucks. Thanks MG guys...
