How many posts have read that said take plenty of pictures
Well I didn't take enough
I'm asking for some help on rear leaf springs
Half elliptical, what end of the springs go toward the front of the car

And has anyone tore down the springs to sandblast them to remove the rust on them
How hard is it to tear them down?

Thanks for your help

This is actually fairly easy. I dont ahve pictures but I can tell you that the springs arent symmetrical and that helps. The forward bushing is a press fit that isnt easily removed (its made of two concentric steel tubes with rubber filling the space between them). The rear bushing is made of two piches of rubber that split apart left and right. I believe the long end goes rearward and the short end is the front. Apart from the clamps along its length, all that holds the leaves together is a single bolt and nut. This bolt is sometimes very rusty and hard to get apart. While it may well be within the grasp of the home mechanic to disassemble thse springs, it may be best to take them to a spring shop for assembly or just to have them rebuilt and repainted there with new clamps etc. Here are the complete specs for a set of 1971 rear springs

The "A" end is the front.
