keep original motor?

So I was told is the original motor for my 59 bugeye, numbers matching anyway...and its locked up good, looks like it may have been left out in the rain, no carbs, no exhaust, smooth case trans still attached. Worth keeping? Its just a 948, and I have no intention of it ever going back into the car...ever. Any reason i should keep it? Im doubting its rebuildable...but i havent torn it down

An original brake cylinder that was locked up, I might chunk. An original engine that was locked up, I'd keep!

thumbs up

If it ain't broke, I'll fix it 'til it is! winking smiley

Do you plan to sell the car? If so, then a potential owner might want it, so it _could_ be a selling point.

If not, then it's up to you. Ask your significant other for a second opinion. You could always use it as an end table!

You mean like this?

I dunno, the significant other said if your not gonna use it why keep it. I dont plan on ever selling it, but you know how that goes...Im strapped for space so im not sure what im gonna do...history tells me to keep it, but eh...lol

Too many pistons for a Sprite!

Yes, that's what I was thinking about, though.

Well, you've seen some of the "Hoarders" shows, haven't you? That may affect your decision somewhat.

Why is it that most subjects of those shows don't really hoard "useful" stuff, like precious metals or MG parts?

Lol I know what you mean. Ive gone through everything I got with the car a few times...most of it rusty junk, along with many of the parts to go back on. Just moved everything again and gonna get rid of more....god i wanna move this project along...waitin for $$ to get her dipped...too bad that boat anchor of an engine isnt worth anything

My 2 cents: Just keep the engine tag, and ancillaries (dizzy, carbs, starter, generator). Chuck the block in the bin.

If you are real careful you can remove those two pins holding the tag, they are about a one twist into the block. If it's any consolation I know that a lot of dealers did this back in day on warranty swaps so they wouldn't have to mess with paperwork. My brother worked as a BMC mechanic for the dealer and so I have first hand info.
