What's the easiest way to stretch these over the post on a 71 midget axle, yes they are the new red ones, not the black ones

I have no idea about the item you ask. IIRC, there are no bump stops on the rear springs, Prothane "red" only offer pads, eyes and shackle bushes, and the limit strap as OEM would be reinforced rubberoid not "red". Correct nomenclature might help us to help you. In the alternative, Moss, VB or correct OEM part numbers would work.

If you mean #50 in this photo:

the best way to get it on to its post is to use something slippery, silicone grease works well, avoids risking any compatibility issues (hand soap can have salt in it, causing corrosion, and petroleum based greases can attack rubber)

In VB catalog they are called axle rubber buffers, I took the originals off , yes Norm very same but I have ones sold by VB made by energy suspension , they are polyurethane and they look like the originals I took off the real axle, but upgrade to poly

Norm caught what I missed. Lithium grease of better yet glycerin...the universal "easy". I also suggest oil wont hurt poly...

Put them in a pan of hot water to relax them, then lube them as suggested or use good old fashioned liquid dish soap

please do NOT use "good old fashioned dish soap", because it has salt and will cause the steel to rust

If I remember right I used the extra grease from the rear eye bushings that was sent with them.

Silicone grease as used on brake parts is what is supplied by the better manufacturers. It is clear/white and would be the preference. Because it is poly, it is pretty much immune to dino or synthetic "grease/oil"...several others should work well too, K-Y gel, Vasoline, Glycerol (or glycerine, glycerin). Dish soap is a surfactant and not the best choice in this case or most others. K-Y and Glycerol are both water soluble.

Lubrication, and hit the top with a mallet. at least that's what worked for me.
