Is it just a connector or what?

What is the white connector looking thing with the large brown wires running to it? It's below the fuse block & above my relays in the picture below.

I haven't seen it on any parts page that I remember & the brown wires appear to be the start of most of the electrical system.

I've often wondered about it, is it a fuseable link or just a connector?

I've done some mods, but the item in question appears to be factory original...

brown wires ignition switch to fuse, light switch to control box, starter solinoid to control box. on my wire diagram which is for a 72 looks like there is a connector? see black dot in pic! anyone else know?

is your control box still wired?

Is that not simply a main fuseable link?

Disconnect it and see what doesn't work.

looks like it came for a control box, my 79 midget also comes with it, but I don't find any use to it.... and sure looks good on your car...

The more I look at the thing, the more I think it might be a fuseable link...

Just did some internet searching for "AMP 180909". It's simply a connector for 4 wires. Why was it used? Dunno. Might be an access point for testing circuits during the assembly process or it might be a way to isolate components when troubleshooting a problem. Your guess is as good as mine.

THANK YOU, now I know!

I was hoping it was a fuseable link because it supplies some unfused circuits, kinda scary...

Im quite sure it actually is a fusible link. If you look at the centre of it, you can actually see the fusible part. I replaced mine with a maxi-fuse when i rebuilt my wiring harness.

Sorry, but it's just a dual terminal splice connector. Look it up.

It's shown but not identified on this wiring diagram just to the right of the solenoid - item #63.

yup, just a connector

On earlier model Midgets, this same job is done by a soldered joint behind the dash, right after the harness passes through the big grommet from the engine room into the passenger compartment. The joint is protected by a heat shrink tube (closed off on one end) filled with a waterproof sealer.

Beside it is another big joint of several wires, a bunch of grounds joined together, with one wire going to the earthing screw just on the engine room side of the grommet.

Looks to me to be the dirtiest thing under your hood. Remove it, or redo you're engine bay to better match it color wise smiling smiley
