See the below which I hope helps you out.

1- The unit is held in by a metal retaining clip - it's spring loaded but you should be able to release it from the back (if you can see enough). Once released, the switch will pull forward.

2- The steering column enclosure has three points attaching it - there's two screws which are easy to remove (access from door-side), and one long screw with a bolt holding it. Undo all three and the two halves seperate pretty easy.

3- The accelerator pedal hinge is held on with only two screws into the floor - pretty easy to undo and you're out.

#2 i seasiest with the steering column out. Its held in with a few bolts (three or 4) and tehn with teh column out you can more safely remove the column shroud. Only three screws hold it on.

#3 is best ignored. i hate the OEM style gas pedal and you might considerreplacing it with a midget 1500 style pedal that doesnt hinge from the floor. The OEM style is uncomfortably vertical, makes heel toe downshifts very difficult, and is a moisture trap inviting rust to form a hole in the floor. But it is installed/removed as described. Not: if you bought the pedal from VB chances are the new pedal will be drilled wrong so redrill it before installation.

Thats why I say its easier with the steering column removed. It reduces the chances of breaking the "enclosure".

The only difficulty with removing the steering wheel is that I can't get a wrench on top of the bolts

Steering wheel can stay in place, the column can come out with it attached. The column is held on by bolts under the dash and at the firewall.

PS: if you ever do need to remove the steering wheel , you only need to take off the big nut in the middle. Here's a video explaining how to do it.

If you have removed or loosened the 3 steering column bolts, I think you should be able to push the column down enough to remove the column covers, but its been a while since I did that myself. The last time I had the column completely out.

your steering wheel doesn't have to come off to remove the cowl halfs. As was said just take the 3 bolts under the dash loose and you will get enough movement to get them out.

If you do want to pull the steering wheel, there is a simple way... But it involves you smacking yourself in the nose ....no joke, im serious

Put your arms thur the steering wheel at the top of the steering wheel and put your hands flat on top of the dash...

Then put your knees under the bottom of the steering wheel... Then apply even displaced upward pressure with your legs and pull up with your forarms at the same time and just hold the pressure... Maybe give a little wiggle ... With in a few minutes the wheel will give up and pop loose... Thus SMACKING. You in the face, and 50/50 chance of blooding your nose.

It dosnt hurt bad... Well unless you break your nose, now that will hurt...but it does get the wheel off

You can also spray down around the big center nut the day before with PB breaker... That will lube up any rust inside the splines

Good luck

I left the nut on part way when I took my wheel off, and it stopped my wheel from flying in my face.

You could also wear a goalie mask or a football helmet if you have one spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
