British Sprite & Midget Race Series Video

Last Monday was the Queen's Jubilee Bank Holiday in the UK however instead of joining in with the Royal celebrations there was a televised race meeting on at Mallory Park in Leicestershire and we had our Midget entered in the two Lackford Engineering Sprite Midget Challenge races.

Race one was a bit of a mess up for me as my tyres were too cold to start pushing too hard, which is exactly what I did and spun out in the middle of the pack on the very first corner, slightly embarrassing as it was caught on the tv and after the race I had text messages and phone calls from various friends saying what a price idiot I looked.

Lesson learned in race two and the tyres were warmed up correctly and here's the link to the video that was taken by our two in car cameras.

There's links to the first race and my spin also if you must take a look at that too :-)

Nice video. Great acceleration. What is your engine/tranny setup?

Well...good and bad

The good....great video quality, and the rear boot shot was a change

The bad.... ITs the Same damn hood shot thats been done in 8,600 other Youtube car racing videos...gez do you have any idea how boring that is

What i love seeing is ACTION...show shifting, peddle work, your face as it reacts to situations, side shots, shots of the crowd as you flash by

An angle that i really love is from the eye level of the helment so we see everything you see.

I think even if you set the cam on the bonnet with a small motor that would turn the cam 360 degrees every 20 sec would be a vast improvement on the same old wornout boring hood cam shot

Anyway... Im not being mean spirited, i just dont want to be bored watchin the same vid over and over with just a change of car colors... I want to see some action

And the fact that you cared to film post and inform us, tells me that you do care about content, so its my hope that you will us my comment to be inspired and allow the imagination take over to find some really great film ideas that tells a more complete multifacited story then the same one that everyone has done scence some guy thought i should film my racing and duck taped a cam to the bonnet

Sorry Prop I didn't realise that the camera set up wasn't up to you exacting requirements. But as you rightly point out the front facing camera is in the standard place. Have you ever given any consideration as to why the camera is position there, I'll give you a pointer as to why!

1. The camera is out of harms way.
2. It won't get ripped off it's mounts by another car.
3. It won't get ripped off it's mounts by me "rubbing" another car.
4. It won't get in my way.
5. The mounts have to be authorised by the Scrutineers as being safe and secure and no danger to any other competitor never mind myself.

I thought I'd managed to convey what sort of action we get involved with by having the rear facing camera included, just so you can get a sensation of how close we run without making any contact. If I'd mounted a camera at my feet then it would have been pretty boring viewing simply watching my feet dance on the peddles, though in an effort to make you happy for future edits I'll put a camera on my feet and facing me also and use them as "stock footage" which I can edit into the forthcoming race videos so you can contented with the content therein.

You obviously feel strong enough to have edited your post THREE times to get your message across Prop, can I respectively suggest that if you don't like it then you self censor your own viewing and not bother in future, I'd not be bothered if you didn't watch it tbh

Hey I don't make money out of my hobby so until I can afford to get another camera it will simply have to do!

I dont think he needs more eqquipment...just more creativity

Im not opposed to the single hood cam shot...i just think there is more then 1 spice of salt to season a steak

Like i said... A helment cam at eye level is an amazing shot...id think duck tape is all thats needed to afix the cam to the helment

Prop you are talking bu77sh1t again.

There are safety requirements to be taken into consideration with all mounts so the camera doesn't fly off and kill another competitor, if you've ever been on the receiving end of a piece of gravel thrown up off another car and felt the impact on your visor then I seriously would not want to be on the receiving end of anything bigger let along a camera.

Talk sense man!

Hey andrew

I did edit a few times....i tend to write very blunt and direct which can come across very crass and insulting....which was not my intent so i was trying to soften and tone down my comments...

Bu yeah ...the rear facing cam was a nice change up

What my comment is based on, the film is one dementional, and there is so much more that left out...and i really think some creativity in angles and mountings could bea game changer

But i do understand your objection to change...as the list you provided are all valid points

Point taken... I wont comment further, sorry for the offence...put plase give some thouht to my basic primis....you have a great camrea, the quality of video is top notch...id just like to see it taken to the next level.

Not talking bu77 sh*t....im just posting about a thread behind

I hadnt considard that duck tape my not have been the best choose of cam mounts until you posted the various set backs

Perhaps suction cups...i have seen many cams that use suction cups to atach cams in race cars

The popular race cam kit... Progo??? Uses suction cups

Prop, you know I'm used to your way of posting from the other place so I'm well aware to read between the lines you write.

However, I do take exception over your creativity comments as when you compare the video I put together with the majority of others you simply cannot say it is one Dimensional as there are two view points and I'm certain you don't mean Dementia and I'm certain I'm sound of mind!

We have to work within the constraints set upon us and yes I could like a third camera mounted to the roll cage looking back towards the driver, but then again I'm British and not that vain. The video was taken to give an idea of what a race looks like from as near a driver's point of view as can be. I can't mount the forward facing camera near my head as the helmet will hit it whilst cornering, the rear facing camera is mounted to the cage behind my seat so is almost the view I see from my mirror.

The MotorsTV video of the first race has been uploaded to YouTube my someone now, I suggest you look at that and see their in car footage from their chosen car. I actually think we got it better.... but then again I would wouldn't I!!!! winking smiley

Suction cups are banned in Motorsport in this country as they have been known to fail and come loose. Roll cage or mechanical fixings only are the accepted fixing over here and I'm not about to drill holes in the bodywork for that.

Thats cool andrew...i did appricate the rear facing cam...its a nice change up

Btw... I know im a bit off and beat my own drum, so the hoodcam shot im sure is more then acceptable and perfered for most viewers, so my comment is probably illrealevent.

At least you take the time to film and post...so i cant really say much as i tend to say i want to then pretend i did

Interesting driving style.
I only ever saw one hand on the steering wheel.

True!

Although we'd put the quick release steering wheel on upside down this time to see the dials better so I couldn't rest my hand against one of the spars as easy and the hairpin required an extra section of turn than is normally used for other circuits. I found that when having two hands on the wheel the instant reactions to catch a step out or oversteer weren't as fast or natural as catching them single handed. It's just something that I got used to doing I suppose.
