Hello everyone,
Brand new MG owner. First time in a forum. First time resto. I figured since I put helicopters together for a living, how hard could it be to put this little car together...right? GEEEZZZZ I need some help. The drawings ain't much help! I am trying to find where the heck the brake light switch is located? I would have assumed that it would be right behind the brake pedal, but either it has been removed like everything else on my gutted little car or its in some obscure location that I can't find. Any help?

It's in front of the pedal box under the hood. It's activated by the other side of the fulcrum.

If you can find a used, original brake light switch, it can be reconditioned very easily and will last FAR longer than the Chinese crap being sold new, today. The original equipment Lucas stuff was really pretty good, for the most part (certainly WAY better than it is given credit for being) and most of the OE components can be rebuilt/reconditioned/restored/repaired.

If you do replace it with a new switch, a relay can extend it's life.

Need a hand, please. I'm replacing the brake light switch on my 76 Midget. It appears that the pedal box has to be removed to thread the new unit in(?). Certainly no clearance between the pedal box and the fender to thread it in. I was able to remove the old switch because the the stop nut actually rotated the stud out from the pedal box. The stud on the new piece is fixed. Dang that pedal box set up.

No you do not have to remove it. Simply loosen all the bolts and start removing them from the front two then backwards and you will notivce that you will get enough clearance to instal the new one without hitting the wheel well. I used a wood wedge to hold it tilted while I installed the new one.

Loosened all the bolts on the outer perimeter and the 2 panhead screws on the upper end by the firewall and the pedal box isn't budging. Tried tapping it lightly with a hammer - no go. What am I missing? I don't see anything else to loosen (?) Thanks for the help.

Well it worked for me. The only thing I can think of is if it was painted and the paint has bonded it. Mine gave me a little trouble loosening but once it broke loose I was good. feel free to post me a pic to see if there is something out of the ordinary.
