Engine to Clutch Bolts?

Posted by syzygy

Anyone know the size of the bolts/nuts that hold the clutch bell housing to the engine back plate? Mine didn't seem to take well to the 28ft-lbs that were listed in the manual. I need a replacement :-( Also, if one stripped should I just replace them all? Thanks

Sorry, no, but get actual graded hardware 5 is fine but 8 makes me happy.

It is unliklely you got all ungraded bolts but replace any that do not have at least three radial hash marks on the head of the bolt (grade 5).

If you're talking about the bolts that hold the tranny to the engine, then they are 5/16" bolts, and nuts, and you would never want to torque a 5/16" bolt/nut over 25 ft. lbs.. This is not the sort of thing I don't use a torque wrench for, for obvious reasons, I normally hand tighten these fasteners, and use locking split washers. I'm fan of grade 8 fasteners as well, even in locations where I don't need them, grade 8 fasteners come in yellow zince palting vs whit zinc palting on grade 5 fasteners, and ii like the look of the yellow zinc plating better, even if grade 8 is not needed.
