I'v enever replaced that before, I think its internal to the water pump and those can be a real pain to get apart. Your best bet is to get the pump (number 1) and the gasket (number 5) and just replace those parts. You can return #4

X3 And don't bother with the hose sold by VB or Moss. Go down to your local autoparts store and get a short section of their best quality heater hose. The ones from VB and Moss have a bad habit of bursting when you're far from home and really late at night. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the rain!!!!angry smiley

X4 A new pump is not much more than the price of the seal. It is a quick and easy replacement giving you more time behind the wheel instead of under the bonnet. Plus, you would probably need a hydraulic press to get into the old pump anyway. And for sure don't forget that bypass hose...

wow, i just noticed today that when I post on my phone I dont see it on the forum, anyways its probably just me,
so I replaced the water pump yesturday, thanks Seth I'm going to return this internal seal,

I took apart the old water pump because I wanted to see what and how the part
#4 would go. the pump was very easy to take apart, since it was getting replaced i used a small hub puller 3 finger type and pulled the fan and pully hub off with that and then I flipped the pump right side up between my vise jaws and used a machinist hammer and drove the internals out.

after doing that I could not see anywhere item #4 would even go inside of the water pump, im dumb-founded over it
the funny thing to me is I called VB and asked for Tech support, she said they have NONE,
now I have bought from this company, diffrent type vehicle but same major company, for over 15 years and used thier tech support on the chevy truck side a few times

or maybe because of the economy being very tough, maybe they dropped tech support, I dont know

could be that their truck division has tech support that their british sporty car division doesnt.

Excellent! I've replaced my water pump twice since 2000. It happens. Shure is nice to not have antifreeze spraying on your windsheild isn't it?

Make sure you tighten the alternator mounting ear screw last other wise it will crack. I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago and the ear cracked within 180 miles so I asked this old timer

who is a MG mechanic and he laughed and told me why !! I was so pissed I had to buy two and worse yet take the car apart again.

Hope this helps you.
Tom
