Modified Magnette Interior Rebuild

As the board has been a bit quiet of late I've decided to comment on the modified seats of my hybrid Magnette.
Since the fire I've repaired the body damage, rewired everything under the dash and finished constructing a custom dash.
Although still a bit early in the project I thought I'd improve my motivation by getting the seats repaired/reupholstered.
The seats comprise 1966 Alpha Romeo front buckets and Wolseley 4/44 rear seat and backrest. The fronts are in excellent condition with some small tears in the front DS squab which are easily repaired. The rears are to the original Wolseley pattern which are a direct fit but in different colours.
To meld the mismatched seats I've drawn a design for the upholsterer so that the rears will match the fronts including the pleat style and orientation. The rear armrest is to be removed.
Pix should be available in a week or so.

Go to it Vince! Having fitted FIA approved race seats, I am not too keen on the covering they use as it isn't a period look. Maybe once the car is on the road I'll cover them with something more appropriate.

My original back seat weighed a ton, but I have modified and refitted the central arm rest. I'll do my own rear seat - this may well be a three seater car with just one rear seat as the cage imposes and my seat is too far back...

Tonight, the correct sewing needles arrived (at long last) and now I can sew a few bits of second hand leather. Laugh if you will, but old black swivel chairs are often a mix of leather and vinyl and have proved a good source of material to develop my sewing skills.

Hi Ray, I hate to see anything go to waste so recycling a product whether it be leather or a metal panel off a direlict vehicle for a compound curve is right up my alley. I also admire anyone that's willing to have a go and put some of they own blood and sweat into a build. II'll be interested to see what you do with the rear seats.
I was pleasantly surprised this afternoon as my motor trimmer rang and told me that my seats are ready to be picked up.

I picked up the seats this morning and am really pleased with the results and the quality of work. The pleats on the front seats are raised (considerably) using a vinyl welding process and the rear seat pleats are stitched to match. As mentioned previously the rear seats are Wolseley 4/44 and the front mid 1960 Alfa Romeo. They fronts tilt forward and the DS headrest is adjustable. They are very comfortable. The reason there is so little rear footroom is that I'm just over 6 foot and have mounted the front seats for my comfort. (I really don't expect to carry passengers apart from my grandkids)

Old rear seats before alteration and unrepaired front DS seat.

Wow! Great stuff Vince. Looking fantastic. Mine will legally have to be a two seater as you are not allowed rear seats with a cage fitted, but it will in truth be a three seater. OK for slow track rides...
