One of my Magnettes is missing the fuel door assembly. Does anyone have an extra or know where to find one? Thanks!

Be sure to specify ZA or ZB...I think the inner latching method is different.

In reply to a post by jrbach Be sure to specify ZA or ZB...I think the inner latching method is different.
There are three different types:
ZA push button
ZA lockable turning latch
ZB lockable striker type

Actually, there's a fourth variety. My ZA has no push button or latch. It is operated by a button in the boot.

And then there's the PO modified versions....

John P.,
Is it possible for you to send a photo of the boot button latch release if this is a factory installation? We have someone here compiling details of Magnettes and this would be very useful.
Regards,
David

David: Yes, my ZA is a factory installation. I will be traveling home tomorrow and can take pictures to send to you. My version is shown in the factory parts manual I have, but it was only used on a limited number of cars.

Michael I've never seen one like that. Mine just has a chrome key fitting with no cover over the lock.

* (Do you have pix of the rest of the car that you could post under a new topic?)

Vince,
I think the title of the pictures is a bit of a giveaway.."VW on Magnette"!

I was saying to myself, "I gotta tell Mike that's not original!" Mike, you're a sly one!

I thought all the the ZA's might have the internal release button. A buddy of mine here with his '56 ZA has the push button on the outside and a back up release button in the trunk, from what I recall

Older VW guys love these things 'cause of the "key" to operate them being not too common (although a screwdriver will do it) and "kool." Used for engine compartment on flat window busses.

I'd be Ok with it if it fit the door a little better and I had a key.

My 62 bus had the original key in a little holder down by the front of the driver's side door. Really handy.

LOL, still got it?

Just kidding. I'll bend/grind something up someday or get the real latch. Well, someday soon if I want to drive it smiling smiley
