With GT-35 coming up in a matter of days, now is the time to let you guys know of the new addition to the growing line of Light Emmitting Diode systems specifically manufactured for each tail lamp style...

These were designed with and for the ZA/ZB Magnette first in mind but we have found additional applications which always helps!

We will be at GT-35 only Monday and Tuesday and will have a display and L.E.D. systems manufactured specifically for the Magnette sized tail lamp. We will have a few of our MGA systems on hand. If interested, see me at the vendor tables or documenting ZA/ZB Magnettes taking notes of the Varitones!

Please Read more about these here:

Very nice, it's be good to fit some nice bright tail lights.

Are they suitable for UK spec cars with combined tail & brake light and do you make the smaller diameter version to fit the indicator (turn signals) that some of us fit for a bit of extra safety?

Do you export to the UK?

Cheers!

Ian,

At this time, the units come in red and amber. The size on the current run is just ever so slightly too large for the MGA 1500 front lens but fits well in the Magnette tail housing. Depending on the internal size of your tail lamp would give you the answer. smiling smiley Let me know the diameter difference between your red and your amber lenses and I'll let you know.

Yes, we export. It costs a few extra bucks outside the USA but worth it.

They are very attractive and clever. $150 (set or each?) is a little bit of a gut check for me...

OTOH, getting rear-ended is a little past a gut-check!

Have to put on my wish-list.

What is the life-expectancy of the unit?

why not include some amber leds, use a clear lens to make a single rear light to do all 3 functions ?

Michael,

That's per set of two so you can complete the rear of your Magnette. Life expectancy should be a long time. The individual LEDs are rated for 10 years continuous use. The PCB board is very good quality and the workmanship is fantastic.

Rennay,

That could be done but it is better not. By splitting up the lighting into various colours, your output is going to start to diminish since space is at a premium. Matter fact, you could run clear tail lamps, red, amber or whatever. L.E.D.s work differently and as bright as they are, you can see amber through a red lens or red through an amber lens.

Brian,
Definitely something for my wish list as well.
Question: does your supplier do them for the TR7?
I want a set for my daily driver.

Rich,

Not as of yet but they will be on the list. We are trying to go after the lights that go for multiple applications or enough owners have interest for orders to manufacture small quantities of the boards. If enough requests come in for any one type of vehicle, we will look at placing a certain type of tail lamp up or down the priority list accordingly.

Hi Guys

These lights, fit (just) 94mm dia, into the normal chrome surround on the Magnette, they do away with old rear light totally and give a tail/stop in the red section while the white section is the turn/indicator.

Not original but safer, they are expensive at £160 a pair including taxes and carriage but then we are paying over a £100 for new original Lucas lights.

Just another photo with the chrome ring I just eased the plastic case slightly with a file and then a small amount on resin adhesive

G.W.,

They are polarity sensitive. If you don't see what you like, give me a call.

Trevor,

The price for those converted to USD would be about $260 (£160) for the set vs. the $160 (£93) set that we sell that allows for original appearance. There are several ways to get to the same place- the type your showing, the type we are showing or the extra turn signal set that can be purchased for the Magnette.

Nice to see another alternative.

Hi BMC

They are expensive but were custom,at the time, and I did not want to add the extra pod to the rear fender for the turn light,I think it is clumsy and spoils the rear fender line in my opinion. these solve that problem neatly. as you say it is another option. LED's in UK are very expensive and are a rip off, your solutions are great and with amber turn lights in the place of red could do well over in Europe as I have said before
Kind regards
Trevor

They can be designed with all three- park brake and turn with the turn being in the same housing but amber rather than red- even amber LEDs will show through red as orange. smiling smiley

My personal likes and dislikes are to keep a bodyline 'moving' smoothly. Although the extra light works well, it detracts from the original appearance of the car.

Hi BMC

All UK and European vehicles have amber turn signals, so amber or white turn LEDs would show amber, but so much brighter.

I did look at using the front light from a MGA 1600 and remove the amber section, which you do not have in the States rhat looks quite good and fits the Magnette tail light assembly.
I think the rear end of the Magnette is very smooth and needs to be uncluttered, I stress this is just my opinion and people do what they want with their own vehicles, I am no purist.
