I was going over my planned body works with a friend of mind who has been a body and paint man since the 40's. Ray is 89 years old and one of the best in his trade. In fact he has done quite a few show cars for Hershey. While talking to him on the fits of my MGA he told me about a TR-3 he did a couple of years ago. After having the door gaps at the correct spacing the top was put on. When the top was latched to the windshield the tension drew the gap at the rear doors closer together. Making the the gap narrower at the top of the rear fender and door then at the bottom. Ray warned me that I should check with others to see if this has happen to the MGAs.

So Can anyone tell me if they ran into this problem.

John

Foot note: I thought I would put in a couple of pictures of a 1928 AA Ford Stake truck Ray had sitting in his field for over 30 some years. And how it looks now

I don't think this could ever be a problem for the MGA. The frame and body are extremely rigid. I suspect the top or the windscreen would break long before the door gap moved.

Agree. With sills/pillars in good shape the body is very strong all by itself. When bolted to a chassis that is also in good shape it'd be even less likely to flex.

That AA is a real nice one - looks like some great work. Miss the '30 4 door we had but don't miss the mechanical brakes.eye popping smiley

On the top....
Just helped my BIL install a new one on his '57. It was so tight it was pulling away from the body at the back. Didn't notice any difference in the door fit.

Are the TR3's wood framed with metal skin? Still doesn't seem it would make a difference if the body was tight.

TR3s are built like a house of cards...not nearly as ridged as an MGA...and no not wood framed just the early doors were, then they went to steel.
