I have pulled apart my 1600 front brakes and it appears as though some of the chrome on the piston is coming off. Will they be alright to be refitted or should I replace them. Has anyone tried rechroming? See attached.

thanks in advance

Jeremy

Well if it were mine, I would replace them with new. You already have them out.Especially any thing dealing with brakes. I believe that's one thing that you wouldn't want to have fail just when you need them the most.

Maybe a good reason not to use chrome pistons?

Replace.

The pistons in the brake caliper ride on the seals. Those will tear up the seals in short order.

You can remove the central pin in the MGA caliper and use MGB brake caliper pistons. Those are usually cheaper then the original type MGA version.

Yes, the stainless MGA caliper pistons are about $50 each and the MGB stainless caliper piston is about $14!!! Basil 707.762.0974 basiladams@yahoo.com
