So I got an email back and he doesn't have an asking price. He's going to let people see it over the next 4 days and then take the best offer. I'm not sure if it's worth the trip. Basil

Looks like it could be a good car, but what a convoluted way of selling one. That method always seemed a little sketchy to me, even if it's not purposely so on the part of the seller. I just don't trust a person who won't place a value on something they have for sale to be honest about other offers they receive. An auction with reserve is more transparent.

So I went and looked at this car today. The car is okay but it hasn't run in 20+ years, the respray paint (originally a white car) is marginal. The door panels are not right, the head is not MGA, the piping is VW black, non-original radiator, appears to have lots of bondo and the inside of the left fender is bare metal - not painted. The owner got the car in exchange for non-payment of rent and he says he has an offer of $8k for it. I bought a running, driving, straight, rust free 1500 in January for $4K. This car is not nearly as nice -0 certainly not worth $8K. Boo-hoo. Basil

Hi Guys,

Lots of fog in San Francisco. That's my home town. $8000 isn't outrageous for an MGA but the car should be straight, floorpans and sills should be good.

There's nothing more fun than owning/driving an MGA in San Fran. But the fog seeps in everywhere.
