Got the body back on the chassis And this time it feels right. Now i have to start with the panels.

It's all fun. The MOST fun is a very debatable point! What is your "favorite" job in restoring an MGA? I liked getting all the "presents" from Moss. I also enjoyed making my upholstery.

Mostly, I learned a ton of stuff...

I am enjoying it really, Honest me lord. Although i don't seem to get a good run at it,Just a few hours here and there.So sometimes it seems like an uphill battle.But i will drag this MGA back on to the road Kicking and Screaming if that's how she wants to play it. hot smiley

After the problems i have had with my Chassis im a bit paranoia about it. So any reassurance gratefully received.

On Saturday i dropped the body on to the chassis but didn't have time to bolt it down. Few hours spare today so set about bolting it down.

Had to pull the A posts in by 1/2in to get bolts in.Bolts that go upwards by the B post no problem. Bolts going up the goalposts no problem. As for the rest what a pig of a job!!! After pulling the body one way then the other way managed to get the rest in,Apart from 3 on the heater shelf.I haven't done anything to them just left them out for now.It looks like the holes will have to be elongated by approx 1/8th to 3/16.
As the body has been off the Chassis for 5 years and moved about numerous times im wondering if it has just relaxed.
Is this normal or do i need to start running around in circles naked with two pencils up my nose shouting Wibble Wibble Wibble!!

That all sounds fairly normal (Exactly to the bolt how I would describe dropping my body back on!) A good podger is what's needed like they used in the factory. I assume all the heater shelf holes are out in the same direction. With all the other bolts slack and (some) weight off the body it should podge into place. If not the slightly elongated holes will be covered by the washers.

Do you have all the packing in place?

But Ho bugger im putting my clothes on and my pencils are neatly in my pencil case as i post this, Have to say i do enjoy a good run around in circles.

Yes they are all in the same direction. As for the packers no i haven't fitted them yet as i seem to be doing this the arr-is to breast way from everyone else.

If you want a break down as to how in doing this rebuild i could give you one! But its best you don't ask.

Thanks again, but i don't think it going to be the last time you will be putting me right.

The difference between me and a 5 watt light bulb the light bulb is brighter.

For the body to line up the packing should be in - the cork at the top of the goal posts and on top of the B-post and rear-end pads, as well as on the front extension, and the rubber along the angled risers to the goal posts and along the door sills. Why would you want to do this twice? I guess if the car is still in primer and you are going to have to take it off again anyway to paint it, you might not want to "waste" the packing now - but then I wouldn't fret on the fit too much.

If you put in the bolts going up the sides of the goal posts (which need the packing on top to line up perfectly) that should straighten out your heater shelf holes. Put the side-bolts in loosely and then tighten the side first that pushes the heater shelf in the direction you want it to go. Tighten these, then do the A-pillar bolts, then the B's, then the front and rear.

I had a similar experience as you on the bolts for the a-pillar area, and that is a good reason to use your actual frame as the jig with the bolts in place when you are doing any welding on the body - like to replace the sills. Live and learn...next time I'll get it right.

Hi Jim

Yes the body is coming off again.When i started this project many moons ago,i didn't know about all the web sites available. So i just did what i thought was right on the rebuild sequence.Although i wasn't far off with the sequence that most follow,So now im trying to bring it back on track so to speak.Will now be fitting doors/wings and making sure everything fits.

In the short time i have been on this site i have leaned so much as how to proceed with the build.

Iv also had some head slapping Doh moments when iv read some threads,And thought WHY didn't i do that.

Like you say Live and Learn.
