Can You ID This Steering Wheel?

Hubs can be obtained in six or 9 bolt patterns from Watford Classic Cars in the UK for 20 to 30 pounds, or $31 to $47 USD. There is shipping to consider. but no duty. The 20 pound one is crinkle and the other is semi polished aluminum. I have one in the polished and am very happy with it, especially considering it is nearly a hundred bucks cheaper than the Moto Lita hubs.

Chuck,

Take a look here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1961-MGA-RACING-GREEN-TAN-INTERIOR-RESTORED-CAR-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-/140734865914?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item20c473a1fa#v4-41

This car has the same steering wheel in at as yours. Not loving the cheezy horn button/crest (Nardi wheels seem to look their best with the satin aluminum trim ring and Nardi crest in place) but otherwise, looks VERY nice and right at home.

But for just another thirty bucks or so, there's a nice aluminum six bolt Momo to six bolt Nardi adapter/collar available if needs be.

It looks like the hubs are for MotoLita wheels. I have sent them an e-mail asking if they have a hub that will fit the Personal/Nardi wheel. I will let you all know what their response is.

I have just listed this wheel for sale over in the Buy, Sell & Trade Forum

Thank you all for help in ID'ing this for me, and for the future owner.

Cheers,
Chuck

As turns out, the generic knock-off e-bay hub adapters are drilled and tapped for both 70mm and 74mm 6 bolt patterns. The Nardi and Personal wheels use a 74mm pattern. I just fit my Personal wheel to my "other car's" adapter to verify this. While it fits the adapter, the horn accessory is not so easy. Most of the Gerneric eBay units standardize on the 6-bolt 70mm pattern for the horn surround. A steering wheel could be redrilled on that 70mm pattern. I believe that the horn escutcheon may cover the original holes.

I think that the MGA, MGB MK1, TR3, Morris Minor 1000 and mini all use the same 3/4" x 48 spline pattern. I'm not sure what else modern car might fit that same spline. or perhaps your car is commonly available. Just though I'd add another option.

Chuck,
I've got a "personal - Nardi" wheel and they have 4 holes on the spokes, and their logo on the back, see first picture.
The other one I have, second photo, like yours, from what others on forums tell me, are a "knock off" of the Nardi
and only used 3 holes on one spoke to get around copyright laws. Unknown maker.

Not to flog a dead horse TOO smartly, but . . .

My un-restored Nardi/Personal wheel has three holes on the vertical spoke, with the "Personal" and crown on the front side, and the "made in Italy" on the obverse.

Seems nothing's absolute in Nardiville.

Not necessarily so from what I can tell and what others have confirmed. You may have 2 Personal wheels. Here are 3 photographic proofs of the Personal branded wheel with 4 holes in 2 spokes and 3 holes in the bottom spoke:

2nd sold wheel

and one still active

Somewhere on the Nardi-Personal website I read where not all of their wheels were branded.

So you may have 2 Personal(Nardi) made wheels. Does your unbranded wheel have the same style date code stamped in the spoke as the marked wheel?

WHOA ! ! !

My wheel (check my picture links) is exactly like the one for the Porsche that sold for almost $600, right down to the button and trim ring covering the mounting screws. Time to break out the power wheel and buff up the spokes. I could pay for my front brakes with that kinda coin.

The plot does thicken! I'll have to check the unmarked wheel when I get home. I almost think it just may have
a couple numbers onlyl. Here's a shot of the back of the personal.

Dana, Interesting wheel you have there. In my research, all personal marked wheels I have seen photo of, have the brand mark "personal" with the crown logo, on the front side of the center spoke. Further, they all have the word "CALLAUDO" above "MADE IN ITALY" both stamped in capital letters on the back side of the center spoke AND there is a date code there too.

The marked wheel that you show has not got a crown in the name/logo, it is marked only on the back side, has "made in italy" in lower case letters, has not got the Callaudo name and has no date code.

I don't claim to be anything near an expert, just somewhat observant and curious. Could this one be a knock-off? Or did the manufacturing process change over the years?

Anybody?

Oh I got a reply from MGBreakers. I guess this officially closes that option for hubs:

In reply to a post by MGBreakers Hello,

sorry, we don't have bosses that will fit Nardi

Jane

OK, checked the "unknown" wheel and sure enough there is a date code 4 67 and what seems to be some of
the letters in "CALLAUDO" thumbs up smiley So looks like both may be genuine.
Both came off MGC's and have the adapters for those splines that was only used for a couple of years, "67 - "69.
The one marked "personal" looks exactly like the one in the 1969 MGC brochure, offered as an option.

1969 MG MGB
Chuck; The wheel you have is the 1968-71 North American factoy optional wood wheel made by Personal of Italy. This wheel along with some Les Leston Grand Prix wheels were used to outfit the Limited Edition MGBGT. My 1968 MGB GT parts car was fitted with one. The spokes are brushed. Mine has been restored completely as fitted as a 1969 option, but I had to polish the spokes. It also incorporated the early MKII MGB horn push; but the one on my parts car used an MGB emblem manufactured by Personal. The factory sold these as accessories along with Amco's wooden gear shift knob and center console for 1969. God Bless! Tony Brown RN mgbrown
