New guy checking in...

Unpacked all the crates Thursday evening. Stuff seems to have survived storage fairly well and we didn't find any really nasty surprises. After we got home it occurred to me that we didn't come across the grill, which should have been in the crate with the bumpers. That's kind of annoying since it was in pretty good shape; I don't know if it was an original or a repro (when I packed it all up I wouldn't have known how to tell the difference), but since the car was hit in the front at some point I suspect it was a repro anyway. There's still a slim chance it will turn up later.

Lots of work to do... It would have been nice if the workspace could have been a little more ready before filling it with a disassembled MG, but not having to pay more storage fees will go a long way towards getting it ready. And breakup (spring) appears to be here with a vengeance, so work that has to take place outdoors (like sandblasting) can happen soon, and components will be shipped off for overhaul shortly. The most immediate task will be building dollies for the body and frame, so we can lift them off the trailer.

Del, Thomas is being awful quiet about that grille. They do make great wall art, you might want to check his house or office out.

I'm the one that will be buying another shell if we can't find it sad smiley

If I got my hands on an original grille I would put it on my car, not hang it on a wall. Dad replaced the bumpers and probably the grill around '78-79 when the car was repainted, so my originals are probably occupying a landfill together someplace, along with my original cylinder head. I did manage to score some original bumpers on Ebay for rechroming a few years ago at least. I have a lot of work to do before I have to be worrying abotu chrome, however.

If you know anyone heading your way via Washington state, I have a 1960 head you can have from my parts car. 1600, right?

I have connections at Alaska Airlines and can get that shipped up here for free =D

How much do you want for it?

Sorry, not as diligent on the board now that I finished my car. I will see if it will remove itself easily and its yours, gratis. If removal, clean-up or packaging becomes an ordeal, I will reconsider a charge. Fair enough?

However, as long as you are "connected" with free freight, and I have lured you in with a loss leader, what other items are you in need of?

PM me with details for shipping. I work in Bellingham, so AA is easy access for me.

Hah, not a problem, it's still appreciated. I'll get with my brother to see if there is anything else needed. I'll have to bring you some smoked salmon down if this works out. I should know about the shipping details this weekend after I go back to my hometown and talk to my connection.

I'm still here... I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that I would need off a parts car. My car's original head may have gotten pitched in the early '70s due to severe valve recession (was replaced with an MGB head), but about 12 years ago I was running a spare engine, which tossed a rod through the side of the block. My original engine now sports the head from that grenaded spare engine, so the number of 1500 heads that I have equals the number of 1500 blocks. eye rolling smiley

Was going through Todd Clarke's collection of xeroxed pages that passes for his catalog yesterday... I think I need to call him up and order one of everything...

So, Del, you want the whole 1960 MGA 1600 block? Be glad to get the hulk out of my shop. That way I dont have to remove the head.

We'd love to have the whole 1600 block; that may solve some issues with the one we already have due to some of the machine work that has previously been done to it. Something like that may or may not have to be barged up. I'm not sure if our airline friends will be able to help with it. I'm planning to be in the Marysville area in May to visit family, and I may be able to take a day to drive up and help with crating, etc so it won't be such a huge hassle for you. Thank you so much.

I think it is possible, our buddy shipped my crated Raptor down to Arizona back in the day and it weighs almost 400 pounds dry.

How ironic, my parts car came from Marysville.

It's not going anywhere soon, but be aware that it is frozen. I will pour some kerosene in each cylinder to soak until May.

You might want to look into transporting via LTI - Lynden Transfer, Inc. Its homebase is in my town.
