Start doing the restore this summer- I have a feeling to speed up the process i will need a good second motor to help get this rolling restore car up.
Getting my sand blaster and glass bead machine will be the next big thing to help speed this new adventure up.
Thank You to all of you

I think you will need help with the restoration unless you have done this. Assuming the car is restorable a professional restorer would charge $60K to do it. That would include some parts. Join NAMGAR and look for advice from the local MG club members in Dallas. You would benefit by attending their events. Overall Texas has an active MG interest. Most here think you should keep the top. No value to the car without it. You might want to ask someone knowledgeable about restoration expense even if you do the work. Good luck.

let's see some more pictures. Looks like the sills could be in ok shape considering the dry looking storage. I would first clear all the crap away from the car and take a load of pictures then post them on a photo host site like photobucket or something. That way all the people on this site can give you some solid advice about make the car s good driver.

The Vin # shows that it is a Standard 1600 coupe made in the spring of 1960. NO DELUXE.

How did you come up with this

GHDL 87288 is your VIN# the extra / between the letters and numbers means nothing. #82921 was made in Jan of 1960 #91240 was the first Deluxe car made it was made in April of 1960. Making this one a standard 1600 probably made in January. This car is too early to possibly be a Deluxe. Source Clausager "Original MGA"
The letters in the VIN mean: G-MGA, H-1400-1999 cc, L-Left Hand Drive, D-coupe.

Johnny,

You can read about how the VIN is decoded here:
http://www.mgaregister.nl/indentification.html

You can browse their data base by going here:
http://www.mgaregister.nl/

then click on "Register" at the top of the page and then "MGA register database" below the picture on the left side.

Your car looks like a major project, have you done car restorations before?

AHHHH, GEEEE (My cheeks are rosy red).

Nice to hear from you Leslie. BTW - I am currently building a 64-65 MGB pull handle for my daughter in AZ. If you see an Iris Blue one zipping around your area, you'll know who it is! Any yes, she has the same refined humor as me.

Maybe I should take a hiatus like you and Jon and re-enter the forum with a fresh outlook and new project. Well, maybe just the fresh outlook. I have secured enough projects for the next 5 years. They're just not MGA's.

Well - our little hiatus was not very rejuvenating winking smiley

Had lots of family stuff going on... and every time I suggest something or come up with a brilliant plan for home improvement Jon flips his lid.... his newest mantra to everything I say is "let's finish the MG first" ... It goes a little something like this around here:

ME: Look honey - the bill for our son's kidney surgery came, guess we better pay that one
JON: let's finish the MG first

ME: Wouldn't it be nice to rip up the carpet in the bedrooms and put wood down like the rest of the house
JON: let's finish the MG first

ME: What should we do for our son's 18th birthday
JON: let's finish the MG first

ME: I would kinda like to do a tile wainscoting in the boys' bathroom
JON: let's finish the MG first

ME: Should we do the grocery shopping Saturday or Sunday
JON: let's finish the MG first

(and sadly I am only exaggerating a little bit grinning smiley )

Jon, be steadfast! It's amazing what these girls can do if you encourage them: learn how to paint, tile, carpet and carpentry. My wife used to say she didnt have a steady enough hand to paint. HA! Now her ploy is to simply ask "what tool do I use to tighten up the drain thats leaking?" Since I am usually in the shop when she asks this sort of question, it is easy to help her find the right tool.

But I digress. Leslie, get off the computer and help Jon finish the MG.

Kind of hijacked this post, but it seemed to need some direction anyway.
