Just greased nipples on front suspension however only did 5 as the near side middle one was missing it looks to have been sheared off and showing no indication of where it was however it would be easy enough to take measurements from the off side unit.
Should I just forget about it or try to fit new one and how should I go about that.
Would like some advice as I guess this has happened before and is this a MOT failure?

Thanks
Richard

Find the location and then use an EZ Out to extract the remnants.

You should worry less about MOT and more about a dry seized steering.

What is A EZ out?

An EZ out is an extraction device. Usually, you have to drill a hole in a snapped off bolt, then turn the EZ Out into the remaining bolt shaft. The threads on the EZ Out are reversed from those of the bolt/screw/etc so as you turn it pulls the remains out of the threaded hole thatthey are in. In the case of a grease zerk, there is already a hole so no drilling needed. This has worked for me in the past.

Sorry I am new to car maintenance after 50 years how will this cause my steering to seize?

With out the grease, the component will "dry out" and eventually weld itself together with rust and corrosion. The grease keeps the components happy! smiling smiley

I vaguely remember reading about a mod to early units, that originally only had two grease nipples. The mod was to fit a third one.

Maybe a PO had installed an old unit sometime, and there really isn't a third nipple.

Barry, I realise that, which is why I said maybe an older unit had been fitted, in the past.

My 63 has two fittings on the driver's side and three on the passenger side. The side with two fittings has no indication that a fitting ever existed in the same place where it is on the passenger side. I am assuming one side was replaced over the years as I doubt it came that way from the factory.

I've had one missing from mine for years, as long as top and bottom nipples are well greased, there should be no problem. The MOT man looks for play in the joint, they are not concerned about missing nipples.

Hi David
Yes I have the same situation but on the nearside after giving the area where the nipple should be a good clean there is no evidence of a nipple being there.
When they changed to six grease points were they the middle ones that they added?
Thanks
Richard
