starting a sleeping b

1967 MG MGB MkI ""Phoenix-Rising From The Rust""
My name is Patrick Partington and I am a new member.
I purchased a 1967 MGB RD that had been stored in a shed for 20+ years and am planning on restoring it.
The first thing I want to do is make sure it will start.
I have read the article "How to awaken a sleeping B" and am following the instructions.
I have removed the gas tank to have it boiled out. There was quite a bit of rust and varnish in the gas.
Question 1. Is the outlet nipple on the side of the tank to come out?I have soaked the fitting with liquid wrench but it won't budge. It looks like it might be spot-welded to the tank. I don't want to twist too hard in fear of damaging the tank and have to buy a new one. Is it spot-welded or just being ornery?
Question 2. I hooked up a hose to the outlet pipe leading to the fuel pump and put the other end in a small gas tank. I then
put a hose on the outlet side of the fuel pump to see if the pump was working properly. The pump clicks but fuel barely gets
pumped out of the small gas tank and not even close to the fuel pump. I have read the article on "Fuel Delivery Trouble Shooting Guide". With the car sitting for so long, would the diaphram get corroded and leak? Is it time to get the fuel pump rebuilt?
I would sure appreciate any advise and recommendations.
Thank you

Welcome to the MGE Patrick!
The outlet on the tank should not be removed! It is shaped like a nut (flats) so you can hold it and keep it from turning when tightening the hard line fitting to the fuel pump.
Also in the Library is a link to Dave Dubois site on fuel SU pumps. Flow should be about 16oz in 25 sec. (?)
Maybe some crud in those old lines.

Welcome Patrick!!

If the fuel pump is an original SU with the points it may just be really tired,I installed an ECCO brand electronic pump. It bolts into the same spot and the fuel lines bolt right on. I got it from Octagon Motors in Vancouver Canada,A Victoria british dealer, I'm not sure whether the pump they supplied came from VB though but so far it's been flawless.
Dave's site is awesome, please check it out. Fuel flows mentioned in other posts call for a pint in 30 sec's or 2 1/2 to 3 PSI.

Also a thumbs up to you for researching before you start and keep us posted on how you make out.
