I just wish someone had told me that there is really NOTHING that takes a couple spots of POR-15 off your skin. I took my gloves off for one minute at the end of my front Xmember make-over and got just the smallest amount of it on my finger tips. It's there for eternity I'm afraid.hot smiley

Actually the solvent they sell will do it. Not too sure how safe that is, either. It is some tough stuff, for sure!!

Yes solvent gets it off if you get it almost as soon as it's on your skin otherwise as they tell you in their blurb it's there until your skin dies (about a week)!

Ok, I even tried 400 grit sandpaper. There's my confession. I know Laquer thinner, paint thinner and hand cleaner didn't work.
I didn't even notice it until an hour later.
Oh well, lesson learned.
But the POR15 works absolutely phenomenal if you take the time to do it right!! I am very pleased!

Leave it there, in fact go get some more on your hands and rub some up under your finger nails. I understand the chicks like the look when you are having dinner at a nice restaurant and the feel of it later in the evening.devil smiley

Seriously, an inexpensive high speed grinder with a 70 grit disc will begin to get it off.winking smiley

POR-15 is great stuff and I've used it quite a bit. But whenever I introduce someone to it, I always caution them that the only thing that will remove it from skin is - time.

I think Acetone and Degel we use for cleaning FOC prior to splicing worked for me. But then I was a mechanic back in the 70s when real men didn't wear latex gloves and we washed up in the solvent tank!

That POR15 needs to be top-coated with another coat of your choice paint if its exposed to sun lite,FWIW,Rich

Hey Rich,
Thank you for the heads up on top-coat.
It's on the front xmember where the sun doesnt really become a factor, but I will keep that in mind.

I found the answer to por 15 on the hands (and other places) - my wife's pumice stone, you know the one she uses to scrub the bottom of her feet. I found that it takes anything off, including black por 15. You will find that after you have used the stone a couple of times, she will buy you your own or give you hers and buy a new one for herself!!

for those who don't know what pumice stone is, here is the definition from google search - Definition for pumice stone:
Web definitions:
pumice: a light glass formed on the surface of some lavas; used as an abrasive.

The skin cells on the top layer are dead. Cells below the surface are alive and are being pushed to the surface where they will eventually die too. So almost anything on the surface of skin will flake off with the dead skin cells eventually. The cancer part I do not know. Is there any cancer warnings on the POR-15 can? My guess is that it says something like do not get on skin or wear protective gloves, etc.

Thanks for the warning, I am sure everyone will take care when using the stuff.

Don't panic. It's probably "known to the State of California to cause cancer," but you live in Wisconsin. winking smiley

There was a bit left from Mt. St. Helens though mostly ash, it is what they literally Stone Wash Jeans with, in Mexico you can buy a good size chunk for $.10 to clean your iron pots or iron with.

It's a high silica lava with enough gas to make it frothy, one of the few rocks that float, made a mess of Pompeii and the harbor too, associated with violent volcanic eruptions.

Old school fine sanding method, mix it ground up with oil to finish varnish, being careful not to rub through the finish.

Now, if you are really tough, you can go for vesicular basalt, they used to sell it for the gas BBQ, will do a faster job if you are up to it --

Students generally do not miss this one on the lab midterm. ;-:

Don't know the genius who figured out how to sell it for a couple of bucks for the ladies feet?

I can sell you some 100% dihydrogen oxide for your radiator?

Regards, John
