It looks as though I'm going to need new calipers. Pistons are quite rusted and some chrome plating is gone. Inside of the caliper looks rough also. B-Hive is out of stock for left-hand side. Anyone have experience with the quality of the Moss units? Many thanks.

Reese

Just received a right hand from Moss who didn't have the left so I ordered the left from Victoria British Ltd. Plan on putting them on next Monday. I ordered new, not rebuilt so I can let you know next week.

Reese, although I haven't seen calipers from Moss in some time, brakes are a major liability. They will stop selling a part if there is even a hint that a safety issue has come up. So, I'd say that you could order with confidence.

When I replaced both of my (original) calipers, I went with Moss units. They were out of the right side calipers. The left came, followed by the right a couple days later. They've been on the car a couple weeks. So far, no problems.

Try Basil Adams. I got both calipers from him @ $78.00 each recently.

Was that new or rebuilt? And did they come loaded?

Scott, Thanks for the plug. You bought too soon. My supplier has reduced the price a few bucks on each one. I'll PM Reese. Bith left and right are in stock.

And Chris, I'm unsure what you mean by "loaded" but they come with everything installed - bleeder, pistons... but the customer buys pads. I usually recommend the TRW ceramic pads (under $30) because there's no brake dust, but some people still want the $18.50 semi-metallics. Let me know if I can help. Thanks. Loaded is an industry term for comes with pads. Unloaded would mean that they do not come with pads. So, are they new or rebuilt for that price?

Apple Hydraulics also rebuilds brake calipers. They did a fine job on my Jag etype calipers. But for the price Basil has new ones for, I don't know why anyone would rebuild.

If you go for the Cardone rebuilts, check all the pistons carefully. I returned two sets because all the pistons had deep scratches. Wound up with new calipers from Gordon at the B-Hive. No problems at all for the last 3+ years.

Chris, Brand new. I don't sell any used or rebuilt items (unless you want to count cylinder heads). Let me know if I can help. Thanks. Basil

As a matter of interest,to all those who have fitted new calipers, when you have fitted them to the car what resistance is there when you push the pistons back in to fit the pads.
Can you push them in with your thumb or do you have to use a lever.
I ask this as one of my pistons has been sticking a bit,it moves freely in and out but I have to use a lever to push it back.Just wondered what resistance a new caliper/piston had before I rush out and buy one.
