Overdrive Adaptor

Hello from New Zealand.

Back in 1977 I installed overdrive in my ’67 B roadster. The power train (engine, gearbox and prop shaft) were out of an early ’66 roadster that was written off. The overdrive adaptor between the gearbox and the overdrive unit did not have the drilling for the reverse lamps switch so I fitted a switch with a light in it underneath the dashboard and used the reverse lamps manually, which worked well.
The B is currently undergoing a full bare metal restoration and its owner is keen to find an overdrive adaptor that does have the thread drilled to take the reverse lamps switch.
The B has the 18GB engine with the 3-synchro gearbox.
My parts catalogue shows the overdrive adaptor as 22H1029.
Any leads on where we could find one would be very much appreciated.

Hmm, I would imagine that without buying the whole unit that bit would be difficult to get. The irony is that mine has that switch in the casing but as mine is an earlier car I'm not using it - yet. I do intend to mount a small third party light somewhere to use it though. Good luck, you might want to try the 'Buy, sell and trade' forum here. Link is in the left column.

Chris, and I love my overdrive!

Ian,

Check with John Esposito at Quantum Mechanics. He's a gearbox guru here in the states, and if anybody can help you it's him. www.quantumechanics.com

Dick,

Thanks so much for the lead, I am about to follow it up now. I will let you know how I get on.

Chris,

Overdrive certainly makes the B a very pleasant open-road tourer. I can still remember how I felt when I flicked the gooseneck switch on the dash and heard the solenoid engage for the first time. This was still in the garage having just re-connected the batteries. The overdrive worked faultlessly over the next eight years that I owned the B.
