hanging and adjusting doors

I was given this 1980 MGB so I am having some trouble with some parts figuring out where they go and others with tricks with mounting. Right now it is the doors. First one door was on but not adjusted right. the flat screws are tight and I can not find the tool to loosen them so I can adjust the door. I also need new screws for the other door, the originals are missing.
HELP, TONY

Tony, at least you got it at the right price. It will only be a money pit instead of a BIG STINKING MONEY PIT! smiling bouncing smiley You gotta have a sense of humor around here!

Get the screws from Moss Motors. Then go up to the search box in the upper right hand corner and type in "door adjustment". Initial search is only 30 days, you may need to extend it.

You'll find some help there. Also note, these are Pozi screws. Get the right driver bits and don't chew up the new ones!

77 MGB - Four tone paint - some kind of electronic ignition - hood props - cheap tires - new springs all around - mixture of poly and rubber bushings - original exhaust - fuzzy seatcovers - stereo out of old F150 pickup - virtually no rust - right front wrecked and semi well repaired - just about right for me!

78 MGB - Done right by a good PO, and I only bought it. Tell Jim how nice it is. But I did put in a Datsun 5 speed.

79/65 MGB - Tubby - Carmine Red - V-6 - T-5
Going to do this one more right, less rat rod!

Tony, the 6 screws per door that mount it to the hinges are Pozi-drive heads. A good tool to use is a 3/8" drive #4 Pozi-drive for your ratchet. You can get one from someplace like Graingers and it's about $7.00. it makes working with the screws a snap, now adjusting them to where you want them, takes trial and error, and patience

Maybe also time to check if the hinges got too much play... Expensive parts, but worth it to get good body alignment.

http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/read.php?1,1688474 - #3 here. Note that if you're not into o/e you can use hex head screws to replace the posidrives. Perhaps not as neat looking but perhaps more practical.

Here's what I've learned about MGB doors, including 'encouraging' the old screws to come out..

Steve,

Great write up. I didn't realize I could leave my doors on during sill replacement. That will be a huge help.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

So Steve you only gave a small % of your experience - see my #6 which leads to you at #3. Now I'm going to have to go back and read your journal and see what I may have missed - luckily my doors aren't hung yet (are yours Melbaver?).

Barrie, hung but yet to be furnished and therefore adjusted, can't put wings on 'til that happens, then more adjustment.

1968 MGB Purchased already dis-assembled which is why I'm often ignorant about what some parts are, and even more ignorant of where they go.

Years ago I bought a Craftsman hand impact driver tool and a Pozi bit just for removing the door screws. Used it all over the B for getting screws loose.

I have air tools now but still use the old hand tool too.

Melbaver I've done it the other way - wings fitted (splash guards removed) but I do know my doors fit because they were trial fitted before painting. Doors still where you saw them (been doing other things) and soon to be have something done to try and prevent cod as discussed here recently. I figured fitting doors can wait until all interior fitted as well as the windscreen - less chance of bashing them.
