MGB won't start

My 74 MGB backfires at intake/exhaust manifold joint to the cylinder head. There is no suction through SU carbs when engine is turning. Could I have an intake leak or cracked manifold? Already replaced intake/exhaust gasket and it still won't fire. Can anyone help?

Fuel, air and fire.

Seems that a crack big enough to keep the engine from catching life would be easy to spot.

Got fuel at the carbs?

Got spark at the plugs?

I've got fuel to the carbs, spark to the plugs (new coil) and it will fire if I use starter fluid or pour gas through the carbs. I'm stumped.

Are you literally seeing backfire from the manifold and not back through the carbs?

More info more info more info......

When was the last time it ran?

Last proper tune up?

etc......

Fire is coming from the manifold where it meets the head, but only when I feed it gas or starter fluid. Last ran last Dec and it ran fine. Tried to start it when it backfired and wouldn't start again. Any suggestions?

Good chance the backfire blew out one of the plugs in the front or rear of the intake manifold...

I never thought of that. I'll check it out. Thanks
