Yes,I have bought a mgb gt. 1971, weird yellow/brown. Its pretty good condition, rust and dents, he backed a trailer into it. The guy said that it was sitting for two years, but it doesn't look like that. I took it home and washed it, no better way to get to know your car, looks so much better. Anyway, its a project for me, being sixteen, it'll be fun, (am I the youngest person on here?) Here it is.smiling smiley

Hey that's cool. I bought my first MG, a Midget, when I was 17. I have a B now, but sadly it just sits waiting for restoration. I also live in the St. Louis area, let me know if I can help you out.

Chris,

Very cool! I like the color. I would recommend joining the local MG Club, I'm in it and they've been really, really helpful. Also, head down to All British Car repair in Overland if you get time, and visit the "MG Doc", John Mangles (who's also the club president). Let me know if you ever need help, as I'm in the St. Louis area as well.

For parts, you'll want to check out Moss Motors and Victoria British.

My first car was a Triumph GT6 of that color. I never thought much of it at the time but it's grown on me. I wouldn't mind having that color again, now.

Welcome, and good luck. I wish I had a resource like this when I was a kid.

He backed a trailer into both sides??!!!
Anyway, welcome! There is a large number of very excellent MGEers in the St Louis area that you need to find. There is a place map up at the top of the screen somewhere that shows where members are from.
As for being the youngest, James Woolf started at what, 12? He's older now and wears big boy pants. smiling smiley
He is also one of the registrars for the North American MGB Registry, another group to think about joining.
Good luck to another Chris and get in touch if you need anything!

The first thing I would do is verify all the safety and reliability issues.(if it has any) Then I would sand the rust spots and stop the rust. Then you can drive and "fix it up" as you go.

Congratulations! Is it your first car?

Welcome to MGE! Here's another orange B GT, this time a '70. For years, I thought I had the only orange GT in existence :p Seriously though, get yourself a copy of the Moss Motors catalog, as well as the one from Victoria British. Both can supply most of what you'll need, usually in a couple days' shipping time. I should mention that some parts (like the recessed grille) are unique to only a few years...and are no longer available.

Congratulations on a Great car choice!! You are going to make lifelong memories! (good and bad,) even the bad ones are fun looking back on them. Get it on the road (safely) and fix it up while you drive it.

I guess the color will grow on me, haha, it'll look better nice and shiny! Thanks for the everything guys I'm very excited about it, already, I've had it for two days, I've got memories. It started up and I wanted to drove it around the block, I went down my driveway and it stopped. And wouldn't start. So we used my dogs rope and a tractor to pull it back up with my family pushing it. And my brothers reaction to seeing it, priceless.

Chris, James says that his dad took him to his first show at age FOUR!

Chis, a very hearty welcome to ya! As Carl says, there are many memories to be made with these cars and with the folks that you will meet through them. All of that might seem a little lame at this point in your life, but I assure that it WILL be of importance more soon than you realize.

Best of luck with your MG. You've got a ton of Little British Car folks in your area. Get to know them.

Jack

Welcome! MGB'S are great cars. When you get yours safe and reliable, you're going to love it. Advice: First and most important, get the brakes redone so you can stop safely.

I like that color. It's one of my favorite MG colors.

You'd better add some more identifying decals so people know what kind of car it is, though! smiling smiley

Actually the first car show he attended IN a MG was just before his fourth birthday. He went to his first car show (MG's On The Green) just before his second birthday. Someday I'll try too scan and post some pictures!

Chris,
There are a lot of great people in the St Louis club. They are a very active group. It'll be well worth your while to get in touch with them!

Chris,

Congratulations and welcome!

Some food for thought:

1. Please do join us at the local MG Club in St. Louis. There's a great bunch of folks and a TON of knowledge available. I have had so much help and learned so much from the club members I don't know what I would have done without them. http://www.stlouismgclub.com. We're doing a drive tomorrow morning actually, although it doesn't sound like the MG is quite ready but come along anyway http://stlouismgclub.com/Events.aspx and drive whatever is available.

2. Ditto on getting to know John - check out http://www.themgdoc.com He does such a lot with the club and for the MG community.

3. Plan to attend the All British Car and Cycle Show September 15. The MG club is the organizing force behind the event and we love all cars at this event. Bring the MG even if you have to trailer it. You might want to enter our Diamond in the Rough class and maybe win $100 for your project work. http://www.AllBritishCarShow.com

4. I'm out in the western suburbs of O Fallon and happy to offer some help if you need it.

Look forward to meeting you in person soon.

Simon

PS. Also consider joining the North American MGB Register http://www.namgbr.org The editor of the fabulous MGB Driver magazine produced by NAMGBR is Robert Rushing who is in St. Louis and a member of the St. Louis club. It'll all get you thinking about going on a great adventure trip to one of the annual conventions. See http://www.mg-2013.com for the next one.

Do you have a website for the club?

The guy who sold it to me said he redid the brakes, so I'm inclined to believe him, stopping is important, haha.
