While at Dillard, I accidentally backed into another vehicle at a local parts store. The other vehicle was an SUV with a rubber back bumper. Our rubber bumbers met and although it was a pretty good bump, neither vehicle was damaged.

I've been considering a CB conversion, but I think I'll stay with the rubber bumpers.

Life is a state of mind.

80B - Engine overhauled 1/11, SU HS4's, O/D, all Speedhut gauges, cruise control, front & rear suspensions rebuilt, tube shocks on rear, Moss lowering kit, Bell SS Exhaust, Ed's 110 amp alternator, Schlemmerized distributor with Pertronix, LED tail lights, halogen headlights, Limey's fuse box & relays, etc., etc.

Even with the increased height of RB B's, I'm a bit surprised you matched up to an SUV. Glad it turned out to be only a kiss.

Me too, especially since my car has been lowered and it was a full size SUV that I hit. It was a pretty good collision too. I'm sure anything but an RB would have suffered some kind of damage

That's why I feel fine about parking my RB BGT downtown, when Susie Cellphone is parking using the braille method and backs into me it's no big deal.

What makes you think that a chrome bumper would be injured by bumping a RB SUV? You already said your car was lowered presumably to CB height. Sounds to me like your trying to rationalize away your CB envy! devil smiley

No kidding. I only take the MGA and the CB MGB to places I know I can park without getting whacked. The RB BGT? Who cares, it's only a rubber bumper B, dime a dozen.winking smileywinking smileywinking smileygrinning smileygrinning smileygrinning smileysmileys with beersmileys with beerthumbs up smileythumbs up smileythumbs up smiley

LOL. That's kind of harsh. If you lower it, replace the bumpers, take off the smog crap, put on some good SUs, it's almost a keeper.

That was the point of my original post. I've done all of the other things, but I think I'll keep the RB's.

BTW, a lowered 80B with front & rear sway bars is a dream to drive on the twisties in NC.

No thanks, I'll leave it like it is, a tougher, albeit uglier version of a real MGB, one able to withstand the slings of fate, or the occasional Susie Cellphone encounter. I don't mind telling people I have a real MG at home.

Frank, I was just trying to get a rise out of the RB crowdwinking smiley, I thought Dan would come riding to the rescue of RB owners everywhere.

Actually, I think the RB BGT is the best looking of the BGTs. The bumpers give it a longer look which makes the lines flow better. The side profile of the CB BGTs always looked a bit stumpy to me.

In fact I like them enough to own two of them. Here's one:

In Nashville I used to park my RB in the grass behind my house in front of a tree(I had 88 Oaks). One night comming home late in heavy rain the wheels locked up in the grass and I hit the tree pretty hard....RBs to the rescue.

You got that right! I lowered my '76 B, installed the bushing upgrade, negative camber A arms, sway bar, new lever shocks with the heavier dampening valves...it's a street legal go cart now, and real happy in our shared twisties. smileys with beer

Hey - I like the looks of some RBBs - especially these as Huffaker had the good sense to make them out of CBB chassis!

But really, whether you like the RBB or CBB may be based on two things - aesthetics and performance. RBB comes off reasonably on aesthetics, which is a matter of taste anyway. They fail on performance, but saying so is no reason for owners to take offence as they often seem to do.

There's no point baiting the RBB owners and it isn't polite. That would be like comparing the MGB to the MGA - unfavourably, which I would NEVER do! devil smiley

I hope all of this is being said in fun. If not, not sure I want to be involved with the MG hobby from anything other than driving my cars. And if this is the mindset of NAMGBR I will cancel my membership immediately.

I personally love RB cars and don't care much for the bashing of any car - RB or CB. I drive what I like and let otehrs do the same without bashing their taste in cars - esepcially on a public forum eye rolling smiley

Agree. Unfortunately, some owners have thin skins and mistake someone critiquing a given aspect of a car as being a personal assault and things can get quickly out of hand, which is why I said that there was no point in poking at any particular model. And that should include Triumphs as well! grinning smiley
