In reply to # 2090386 by saanich2006 I think we have all been there at one time or another - whether we want to admit it or not.

Yesterday, I needed to get the metal locking clip out of my old choke cable. I looked for about two hours and then saw it hanging on the wall!

What I hate the most is when you drop something and it goes into the twilight zone. I was putting the pulley back on my alternator and dropped the little half moon, pulley key. Of course it was 11:00 at night and no place was open to get another one. I looked everywhere with a 12' diameter and I still never found it!

When I was just redoing my engine compartment, I labeled every screw and bolt and part I took off. I had been collecting the small plastic cups they use at fast food restaurants for about a year. They have a clear lid and are a great size. The ones from Chick-fil-A are the best. I put a yellow Post-it note inside everyone. It worked great.

I asked one of my students whose family ran a Chinese restaurant, and a whole pile of cups and lids showed up, -- reminds me I need to start using them more. I used a bunch to organize rock and mineral samples for Geology, stack nicely, and a translucent enough to get an idea of what's inside, you can mark the side or top as well.

We did give them catering business.

Regards, John

You guys have no idea how much this thread has restored my confidence. I'm confident now I'm loosing it too! Not only do I now have parts bins (the large ones) hanging all over the garage wall where I'm working on the B, but each big drawer is labeled 'Project 1", "Project 2", etc. Now if I could just remember what project 1 was!!!
Most of my tools were hanging on the walls of my wood shop when I started the B project. I moved the necessary tools out into the pegboard panels of the garage when I started the work but also need to use the wood shop on occasion because of lamps I make for a store at the beach. You know where this is going right!? How come every time I go for a tool (and I have duplicates of most every major wrench, socket, etc.) it's in the other shop area? There's no way I put it there!!! RIGHT!?

Actually I usually end up with nuts and bolt left over. Now visible holes for them, and nothing ever falls off.

My theory is that some of the holes heal and close up when the bolt is removed.

I was thinking I could avoid the "2 of everything" syndrome in the future by doing an organized inventory. But after seeing this thread, I'm scared! There doesn't seem to be much hope!

Not a part, but last week I lost a set of keys between the house and the car. Can't tell you how many times I retraced my path with no success. Finally, about a week later I walked out and there they were right in front of my face on the driveway. NO WAY were they there all week, and yet what other explanation?
