catch as catch can? #1

Is anybody using an oil catch can on the tappet cover breather tube before entry into either PCV, manifold or carburetors. If so could you please post a picture of your installation as I'm about to install and looking for a good spot for the can.

Keith before you get an answer you'll need to specify if you are intending a closed system like on a race car (of which I can write about - no pictures but) or just using a catch can as part of your existing system.

CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67 owned since 3/77. Undergoing nut and bolt restoration. Tartan Red (now). 18GB +40 balanced with almost all new internals. Peter Burgess big valve fast road head. Piper 285. TT exhaust. ARP everywhere. 123 ign. Needham 4synchro c/r box. Stock rebuilt/replaced suspension. Superpro bushes. New brakes all round including all pipes in SS flex. Interior redone. CAMS approved roll bar and side bars. Lots more. Hybrid of o/e and show/fast road car. Not for sale - it's my toy!

Thanks Barrie,

I intend to use it in conjuction with the Basil Adams solid tappet cover. Installing it between the cover and the back of my carb air filter (Weber). Without any thing between I found too much oil blow by going into the air cleaner.

apparently, the second one is no longer available...but take a look at the bottom of the page for others. i like how you can see when they are full and need to be emptied.

i think i remember your past threads about your issues. did you ever figure out what was causing the blowby? i have issues with my cylinder wall - broken ring caused a huge gash. i'm presently working on a new block to put in.

Keith - in that case I leave it to others to comment.

Curtis - there are hundreds of options for catch cans on Ebay - many coming from China. Even Amazon has them listed as do most of your performance shops there. You should only buy one with the viewing tube - you don't necessarily need the breather cap version. Stuffing a non-baffled version with stainless steel pot scrubs allows the oil droplets to latch on to something rather than just pool at the bottom.

I purchased a "Redline Weber", 32/36 (and according to supplier) all Webers aren't created equal for the 72 B after flooding issues w/HIF4's, an suddenly my tappet cover gasket started leaking, what up with that? Somehow, I don't think a Weber has enough vaccum to adaquately vent the engine the OE 4's do, I'm going to replace the gaskets and leave the Weber on till I get the 4's rebuilt. I must admit ,the Weber performs pretty good though, so I'm not in a hurry.
