Did you buy your MGB or MGB GT brand new off the dealer's lot and still own it to this day? If so, please post the oldest photo of you & your car in this thread, and maybe write a little story about what prompted you to buy an MGB at the time!

* Also welcome in this thread are stories & photos from MGB owners where another family member (eg: parent, grandparent, etc) bought the car new, and it has stayed in the family until present day.

** Also welcome are owners that bought their MGB the same year it was built, even if they were not the first owner
(eg: bought a 1973 MGB in 1973 from a private owner)

Got this idea from a thread on another forum, thought it might be fun grinning smiley
Looking forward to seeing your story!

Not every MGB that was bought new is still in original condition, and that's OK winking smiley

Kind of!

I think this is a great idea, and I'm going to go in head first.

In 1973, my Dad, pictured below center, bought a new 73 Harvest Gold "B". I think the birth of his grandson, pictured below right, made him suddenly feel his age.

After about a year, he was told by "She who must be obeyed" that without air conditioning, she was not riding in no funny little car.

The Dad went to the dealer and had a deal going on a TR-7 (regardless of his claims, he did make some mistakes, one of which is also pictured below left!)

He called me and offered to sell it to me for what the dealer had offered. I jumped all over it, wanting something with more power than the bugeye. (OK, I made some mistakes too!)

The dealer immediately upped his offer. I think he wanted it for himself.

After driving the heck out of the thing for years, I restored it, and there it sits, black as the ace of spades. I should mention a couple of things here. First, it was wrecked early on in life. My Dad was out of town and had given my sister intense instructions NOT TO DRIVE HIS CAR. Guess what? She was at a stoplight, and when the light turned green, she missed a gear, and a tractor trailer behind her forgot she was down there! He pushed her across the intersection, with her screaming all the time!' Just caught the upper boot lid, but scared the beejesus out of her!

Also I ought to mention that the car now has about 105K miles on it. It still has the original clutch and the carbs have NEVER been touched.

When I moved from Utah out here, I gave it to my son, to hold and protect for his son. So here are the four generations who will have owned the MGB.

In about ten years, the young one will get it. I hope to be able to see him learn to love and respect the old beast.

77 MGB - Four tone paint - some kind of electronic ignition - hood props - cheap tires - new springs all around - mixture of poly and rubber bushings - original exhaust - fuzzy seatcovers - stereo out of old F150 pickup - virtually no rust - right front wrecked and semi well repaired - just about right for me!

78 MGB - Done right by a good PO, and I only bought it. Tell Jim how nice it is. But I did put in a Datsun 5 speed.

79/65 MGB - Tubby - Carmine Red - V-6 - T-5
Going to do this one more right, less rat rod!

First photo is in June of 1979, straight from the dealership with 8 miles on the clock.
That's my grandparents in the car.

Second photo is of me in 1981 at Black Hawk Farms Raceway, in South Beloit, IL with the Chicagoland MGB Club

This will be a great thread to follow...

Hey Skye after this flows its course how about a thread about MGB owners that keep in touch with their former owners?

I send email to my PO's widow all the time with photos of the little car someplace doing something unusual. I also send her a calendar each year.

Sure, I think if it's still in the family that counts as "Original Owner"!!
Great photo Pete

Raymond, is that a members only jacket?

My sister's 1979 MGB has been hers since since 1980. Close, but no cigar.

EDIT: I had the date wrong. Just talked to her. It was 1982 when she bought it. Feel free to remove all my posts. I have no business being in this thread.

Had a couple of those jackets myself. Nice MGB! Love the green. I am kinda partial to green. I even have a green motorcycle. Nice steering wheel too. This '79 MGB has one just like it.
