I have a new vin plate for the door jamb of my '73B but no way to stamp the number on from the back as original. (see attached photo) Does anyone offer this service? (I have number/letter stamps for doing from the front)

DYMO comes to mind. Anyone remember those old label makers that stamped a plastic tape?

Todd Clark over at Clarks Spares and Restorations make replacement engine ID plates for A and B series engines. I think that he will also stamp VIN plates too. You'll find him at: http://www.clarkespares.com/carparts.html
Give him a call and let us know.

Todd is the guy to go to. I had him make a replacement engine tag for me (aluminium safe hot tank solutions are NOT safe for the aluminium engine tags), and the result was perfect. He even supplied me with 2 new drive rivets to refasten it to the engine. Prompt and all round good service.

Seeing this is running and Thomas if you are there were Aussie MK1 cars stamped originally as shown in the link above or from behind as in Adrian's link and yes not only do I remember dymo tapes but you can still buy them. I'm sure that's what the factory used to label the switches on their works cars.

CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67 owned since 3/77. Undergoing nut and bolt restoration. Tartan Red (now). 18GB +40 balanced with almost all new internals. Peter Burgess big valve fast road head. Piper 285. TT exhaust. ARP everywhere. 123 ign. Needham 4synchro c/r box. Stock rebuilt/replaced suspension. Superpro bushes. New brakes all round including all pipes in SS flex. Interior redone. CAMS approved roll bar and side bars. Lots more. Hybrid of o/e and show/fast road car. Not for sale - it's my toy!

Barrie, I believe the plates were stamped from the rear on Oz cars. I have the Oz plates but cannot do not the stamping!

Hi Keith - I know you've got the plates (and I'll probably get one from you to replace the one I bought and had stamped but it was stamped like the one in Chris' picture and somehow it's no longer pristine). I also have to have what's known as a 'blue plate' to say my modifications are approved. I want to get that marked up the same way so that's why I'm curious as to how the plates were originally stamped here.

You can also buy the stamps quite inexpensively. Here in Canada, Princess Auto has them. I would imagine that in the U.S. Harbor Freight would carry them. Moss (and others) have the blank plates.

Buying stamps is easy, getting them lined up and looking correct is not. You really need a jig to get it right. On reverse stamping you have to use the same amount of pressure to give them the correct height.
Call Todd.

Barrie,
A set of number stamps cost me $12 and letter stamps $19 the other week. Reverse stamping (same font and size)

Where please.

I heard back from Todd at Clarks. He will do the 3 plates for $76 not including the plates.

Sorry Adrian but I don't know whether you noticed where I live (Australia). If you're interested though, the place was McGinns in Mackay, Queensland (http://www.mcginns.com.au/)

Brand: Famous TOLEDO 3mm (1/8"winking smiley Part Nos 301626 and 301615. I'm guessing they're US made.

Does anyone have a photo of the proper plate for a '67 Sprite?

Thanks

Those are not reverse stamps, they are front-side stamps which are not correct.

The Australian ones Rodger posted are also not reverse stamps. I have found a few on ebay but it's gotta be cheaper to have Todd do them... plus I don't have to do them. Although I do enjoy doing things myself...

I'm wondering how bashing a stamp into the back of the plate raises a perfect letter without a female die to help it. I will try stamping some sheet aluminum with a regular set of stamps to see if my suspicion that it's not as easy as it appears are correct.

So engraving them in Times Roman 12 point, would be frowned upon?...................................chuckles!!!

1968 MGB Purchased already dis-assembled which is why I'm often ignorant about what some parts are, and even more ignorant of where they go.
