I'm tearing down a set of SU carbs for rebuilding, and you never know what you are going to find, or who's work you will be following. Well here's the float lid inverted showing what the float level was set at, it has Grose jet in it, which is not even remotely close to the size needle valve body that would be correct for HS4 jacking the float way down, so how 3/4" of float level grab you ? cool smiley

Speaking of SU's...

I have a pair of HS6 carbs on a 3/4 race MG motor, what do you 2 experts recommend for fuel pressure?
I have done a fair amount of research on this and the range is 1.5 lbs. - 4.0 lbs. ???
What do you guys recommend ?

Thanks for any advice.
Bob

I would wager this was intentional. My experience with Grose (gross ?) valves is that they don't seal completely with engine vibration. Some poor sap set this one very low in the hope of preventing flooding. At least, that's my guess.

If the Grose Jets were made after about 1996, all bets are off for both performance and even fit.

Not here to promote Grose Jets, but we are far enough along in the history of some of this aftermarket stuff to question whether much of it still justifies its reputation or not. Especially after things have changed hands - sometimes more than once.

Check the wear on the float bowl lid screws.I picture some poor chap having purchased grose jets and then spent the next 2 weeks or months bending the tangs more and more, and pulling more and more hair out the whole while.hot smiley Then finally changing to a weber carb.confused smiley But then I always try to imagine the story behind how it got to that point too.drinking smiley

Hey guys,
I have always wondered if they were any good ... So, needing a set, I ordered a set for my 1275 spridget... And guess what... that 3/4 inch is what you are going to get with the plastic floats shown. I happened to have an extra set of the old style floats with the adjustable metal which worked fine once I adjusted them but I was not able to use the plastic ones with no adjustment. The jets come with a washer and was of no value...

Having changed my floats, the 3/8-1/4 float setting works well...

Certainly there has to be an alternative??? I am of the opinion that they will probably say tough but it might be worth asking people like Moss if there is anything other than replacing the floats??? Of course I guess the Vitron tipped needle and seat for a dollar more will also work without having to do away with the plastic float assys...
