How do you fit the rubber over the overriders (PIC)

I'm fitting the black rubber finishing piece over the chrome overriders. I notice that the new bolt sticks out a bit, ultimately not letting me have the black rubber flush with the chrome. I would say it' about 1/8" from being seated. I tried removing some of the rubber on the back of the finishing piece, not a huge difference as there is a metal strip just under the surface. Any thoughts? Maybe switch to a carriage bolt?

After putting the metal tang through the over rider, push on the rubber to make it flush and using pliers give a little twist to the tang to prevent the springiness of the rubber from pulling it away from the metal.

Here in the US I twisted the tang clockwise. Since you are in Australia, you should twist the tang counter-clockwise grinning smiley

Edit 2: Sorry, Russ, for some odd reason I though you were Australia, but I see you are in Canada.

The bolts on mine are kind of like a carriage bolt. Maybe you have the wrong bolts?

Russ, I misunderstood your problem. It's not the rubber itself that is causing your problem, but the thru-bolt underneath the rubber (the thru-bolt that holds the over rider to the bumper).

That bolt is a specialized carriage type bolt. It has two flats under the bolt head that fit into the hold in the over rider to prevent the bolt from turning. Here are two pics - you can see the thin head design of the bolt and you can see how flush the bolt sits in the over rider.

Yes, that's the issue. I used the bolts from the moss bumper nut/bolt kit. Guess they're using stand bolts now. I'll live with it. Say, are you supposed to put the rubber over the bolt first, then bolt it to the bumper. Or, do you bolt it up and struggle to bend/twist they rubber tabs on?
