How do I get these 2 rubber bushings/bumpstops in? PIC

You're looking at the transmission's bumpstop/grommet goes between the transmission support bar and transmission.

There are 2 rubber grommets (if I can call them those) that need to be inserted into a much smaller sized hole. I tried the rope trick with hot water, but ripped one of them in half. How am I supposed to do this?

My wife said, "yah right, that won't fit".

Put them in hot water to soften them up a bit, then put some grease on them and work them in. Not an easy proposition, but it will work, had to do it last year.

Or forget about it like I did and use poly.

I was wondering what you were on about Ron - of course I have the same as Dave (part of an expensive p&h package I got from Moss but that's already been the subject of extensive dialogue and it's time to move on) and they just fit, I was going to say like bought ones, but obviously they're a whole lot easier than your bought ones! As Dave says get the polys.

CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67 owned since 3/77. Undergoing nut and bolt restoration. Tartan Red (now). 18GB +40 balanced with almost all new internals. Peter Burgess big valve fast road head. Anyone have a part number for the poly? Prothane or other?

280-056 for the bushes and 282-335 for the pads.

Russ, you should have gotten them from Ken when you picked up the OD and SC.

I would use soap instead of grease. I don`t think it matters if the grommet is in 2 pieces. It can`t escape because there is a bolt through it.

I`m curious... what is the `rope trick`

Tie rope around the channel, put it through the metal and pull. I did it with my sway bar, worked like a charm. Hand nearly fell off from the lack of circulation, but it worked.

not a big fan of poly bushings or grommets, especailly if they are near any heat source. On the Pantera I had poly engine mounts, radiator isolators, and radiator tube grommets. After about 3 years, I had red poly goo all over the place.

just my experience
