US MGB Dash

Hi Everyone!
This is my 1st post here as I've just bought my 1st MGB.

The car has been imported into Australia at some stage from the US. It had to be converted to a right hand drive which was done quite well, except for one part......The Dash!

The Dash is basically a painted piece of wood which has all of the instruments attached. It all works and stays together but I would like to rebuild it to something closer to the original. The problem with that idea is I don't know what the original LHD dash looked like!!

Would someone here consider taking a photo of their 78 MGB model Dash for me and post it here??????

All sincere goodness sent your way if you will bother.

Thanks From Oz

Hey Vaughan, i couldn't tell if you wanted to change back to a left hand drive dash. If so, this is how it looked from the factory for a US spec car.

Thanks Mate that is what I am after! I am not wanting to change it back to a LHD I just want to get an idea of what the original looked like to work out my options.

I am considering trying to buy or make an original dash for RHD OR forget trying to take it back to original, and make my own cool and groovy dash!!

thanks for the photo!!!

Kiwi conversion of 78 to RHD. Also check E-bay UK. The UK market late dash is much more tastefully done than the N.A. styles. IMHO.

Lots of people can sell you a RH dash, even RH versions of American copies. They are usually fibre glass, various qualities. Mine was a very low quality one, very poor fit.
You might prefer to fit a metal V8 dash. I did. Advantage of the V8 dash is that it has the smaller speedo and tacho holes so you save a little. You would have to replace the speedo and tacho and do some extra work on the steering column if you went for the earlier dash. details here. My second hand one cost about $300. Make sure you get the chrome strip on the glovebox. Available, but you'll have to hunt for one, or import.

Definitely get powder coated, looks much better, easier tougher and after you take time sanding and painting into account, cheaper than painting.
The Australian or English rubber bumper cars never did cut away the scuttle below the windscreen as per the American cars so you would need to fit a KAS scuttle regardless, which is not hard to do, if you were after originality for RHD cars. I later painted the scuttle, looks much better that way I believe.

here is a source of dashes, what ever you chose to do

or MG workshops in Melbourne or AAAutomotive in SA or heaps of other places.

Steel dashes come up on aus Ebay quite regularly. If your not in too much of a hurry just keep your eye out for one.
