Cold Air Intake?

I have a Weber 45 DCOE with a K&N air cleaner on it.

I am considering to bring fresher air into the carb from the front side of the radiator (next to the oil cooler and horn) instead of from inside the very hot compartment next to the exhaust and hot air moved from the fan.
I know it's a theory... And I am not racing...

A flexible hose could be installed through the existing 2-inch hole located on the radiator's mounting plate. I am thinking of the K&N RC-1090, since the room is limited, maybe one inch larger.
See the pics about the carb and the hole.

What do you think?

Any suggestions?

Thank you, Gerard

Gerard.

The factory made the hole through the radiator diaphragm bigger and installed a 3" diameter hose through to the grille area on some of their MGB race cars.

The effort and cost of making a cold air kit will far exceed the results. It has been discussed on here a few times before and I think the general though is not to bother. The money and effort can be better used in many places on the car. For instance the MPG gains (talking 1/4 mpg or so) can be equaled or likely beat by simply repacking the wheel bearings. It will reduce drag and also ensure everything will last till next service interval. Remember that a cold air intake doesn't help performance much except at high speeds where more cold air is being "forced" into the engine. Even then we are talking 1-2hp at most, hardly worth the cost of the hardware.

OK,

Cost would be very low since I can make the whole thing myself including the sheet metal box to replace the one I have now with the flat K&N.

I guess you are right, it doe snot worth the effort probably...

Thank you.

Follow Kelvin's advice. The trick part is keeping the air cool in traffic, not at cruising speeds. So you will have to build some kind of cool air box with insulation connected to the carb throats.

Go for it!

Just make sure you put a screen in front of the intake. You dont want all kinds of bugs clogging the filter.

Good advice Norman, I guess I will put a thin 6x6 stainless steel mesh behind the grille

Thank you.
